Default RCA 32" LCD Model L32WD12

I bought a RCA 32" LCD TV three weeks ago. I noticed
that after sitting off for a while, I would have push the
"on" button twice to get the set to turn on. This happened on the remote and the button on the tv.
I pushed the "on" and the red LED would go off then on.
Then the set would just sit there. When I pushed the "on"
the second time, then the LED would turn green and the set would power up.
Then it got where it wouldn't turn off. The screen would
remain on and there would be vertical colored lines.
I took it back to Walmart and they gave me another
tv. This one turns off fine but I noticed it still does the
same thing as the first one concerning the pushing the
on button twice.
I called RCA and they said this was not normal. I told
them the last two I had did it. They had no answer.
My question is " has anyone else encountered this in their
RCA LCD tv or other brand? "
Thanks

Don't own an RCA and yes it's not normal...but if everything else works fine...you may decide not to worry. If not, return it and go for another model.

I have this same TV, bought from Wal-Mart, and I notice I have to hold the power button down for about 1 second to get it to turn on. Just pressing it won't turn it on.

Johnny - have you been able to get the thing to remember what time it is? Or have you had success with the Sleep timer? If I set it for 5 minutes, it seems to work, but if I set it for an hour, it won't work. The time also resets with every power down - could that be because I don't have a "Time Reference Channel" set?

I also had trouble getting the Setup menu to quit coming up - you must do a successful scan before it will stop popping up every time you turn it on. If you just add a channel manually, it will continuously send you to setup everytime you turn it on. This took me about an hour to figure out.

Also, the IR sensor is picky. The range sucks.

The OTA tuner seems to be pretty good.

The RCA tech support absolutely sucks. I called for help on the Setup issue, but got no where - the guy had no clue on how the TV worked and had to put me on hold to tell me how to manually add a channel!!! This was after the one I needed got deleted by following his stupid directions. I was so mad I couldn't remember how originally did it. I didn't realize that was such an advanced question!

Overall, I bought this TV because it was so cheap for a 32" model, and I'm OK with the picture, but all the quirkly usability things are making me think twice about whether the $500 savings is worth it.

Default General ideas

Regarding IR remote performance, if you're facing a bright window, anything that can reflect light off the remote's transmitter, this may interfere with the performance/range. Change the angle you use to aim it at the TV. Timers & reference channels. If there is a setting for a reference channel, find one that works. Often PBS. Without it, clocks and timers may not function properly. I have this problem any time there's a power failure. On-off button: with some designs, it must be held in, this might be a normal thing. Try to avoid turning it off and on repeatedly, but hold the button a little longer so that the signals are conveyed by the systems on board.

RCA is a Thompson brand. They are big, known worldwide, based in France and can make good products. RCA has a terrible reputation from the past but there's no reason it can't be good now with Thompson at the helm. RCA once was parent of NBC and pioneered electronic color television, with NBC as the test bucket and promoter of pretty pictures in dept store windows, while the other networks were always B&W.

I havent exactly had great success with Thompson either. 2 tv's and HTIB all crapped out within a year.I even tried to go to an RCA HQ in Deptford NJ and was told that I they did not have anything to do with the products themselves,as they were only the name on the box,to try were I bought it.Went to Radio Shack and Walmart and was told buy them that they also had nothing to do with it...call the manufacturer,Thompson.I'm currently in litagation with Thompson at this time over the products.I'm not bashing there stuff in anyway,my close friend has had an RCA 52" for about 4 years now and ZERO problems.I'm simply saying to make sure you have a warranty clearly stating who, where, and at whose expense the repairs will made. Also who or what determines if the repairs covered under said plan.

Default RCA L32WD12 Issues

We just bought the same tv from Wal-Mart and we are having the same issues. The sleep timer doesn't shut off the tv, and I can't keep the time set without the Time reference channel set. I am going to hook up an antenna to see if that will solve my issues because the solution from rca customer service was to unplug the tv for an hour and try again!!!

Has anyone else found a solution to these problems yet?

Default RCA L32WD12 Issues with time

Hi Kelton325 - Just wanted to let you know that I was able to solve the time problem without setting the Time Reference Channel. I set the time manually and then immediately set a wake up timer. Amazingly, our tv has kept the time even when I shut it off, and it actually came on at the time I set. The sleep timer is still an issue though, I was able to get it to turn off after 15 minutes, but not 25 minutes. I hope this helps you with your time issue at least!

Thanks for the info!

I have the exact same result with the sleep timer - it works at 20 or less, but nothing past that. Very strange.

I can live with a shut off timer instead of the sleep timer - actually that works better. I don't want a wake up timer though, so I guess I'm still stuck trying to get the clock to work with the ref. channel.

Did you happen to get the sleep timer to work with a reference channel set?

OK, so using Jhella's trick above, I was able to get the set to maintain the current time. Since I only want the turn off timer, I set the turn on timer for 1 minute before the turn off timer, and thought I would be OK. Well, it didn't shut itself off last night at 11:15 and the TV was still on at 4:30AM when it woke me up. Not cool.

Also, as I was working on setting up the wake up timer. The thing started not coming on when I pressed the power button. The power light turns from Red to green like usual, however the picture does not come on. I think it's about time to take this thing back to Wal-Mart.

I have that model too from WalMart and love it except I have the remote issues, too. My remote has to be within 8 feet of the tv before it is reliable.

ricaltman - does your sleep timer, and turn on/off timers work?

When did you buy yours? I wonder if me and some others with the same problems just got into a bad batch...

Default Time Setting Not working

Just like all of you, I just picked up the L32WD12 on Monday and hooked it up last night. Set all the time, channels, and date and even specifically changed all the sound and picture settings. Turned the TV off for a couple of minutes and turned it back on...guess what, it "forgot" everything I had just input!!! I tried putting in all the time, date, picture settings again. Turned it off...same problem! The PBS station also does not work for setting the time on it, but you ALL should check to see if your RCA L32WD12 tvs are "forgetting" all your sound and picture settings as well like mine. That is definitely a defect to have to reset all this stuff each time you turn the TV on. Just make a simple adjustment to the "personal" picture setting like setting the black level really high and then set some random time. Turn off the TV and I'll be willing to bet it won't remember either of them when you turn the TV back on.

Very disappointing. I waited a month for this TV but will be brining it back to Wal-Mart this weekend for this problem that it erases all it's settings when it gets turned off. Picture quality is really nice besides this issue!

Oh, I forgot to add this. I also have the problem with it not turning on unless the push and hold the on button or push it a few times in a row. What a piece of junk.
