He doesn't believe it. He is just purposefully baiting people with the intention only of annoying rather than discussing or informing. He has seen that people take his ramblings seriously and he is just enjoying pushing everyone's buttons.

Hi Tanaka,
Is that your pic?
I think you're right John C, he can't be that dumb to believe that. A lot of people just like to stir shit for attention.

Can't you just "think" these comments to yourself? I would still take his set over yours anyday. Sorry but it's true. And, don't believe everything you read!

1024 x 768 Is Not True HD

1024 x 768 is not true HD.

To display true HD you must have a tv that is capable of displaying a minimum resolution of 1280 x 720.

Every plasma tv under 50" on the market today has a resolution below 1280 x 720.

Regards,
-Ward

You have no credibility on this forum anymore.

Hi. I'm new to the forum, so don't murder me. I tried reading the whole thread, but the bickering was too much, so I stopped on page 3, lol.

I gotta agree with this Ward fellow. Whatever you think HDTV-ready means, it doesn't really matter. Any TV that doesn't have enough lines can't be called an HDTV. I wish I could say this in a nicer manner, but if you think 1024x768 is HDTV (as defined by ATSC), you're wrong. (One could argue 1366x768 is also not HD because the pixel count is wrong. I could stand by that person, too. But a majority of people consider 1366x768 HD because it has more than enough lines to count as HD.)

HD-Ready is 99% of time used to designate the lack of an ATSC tuner. I have never heard it used in any other fashion by any person anytime, anywhere. Dunno know even why it is mentioned in this topic.

What the poop is this talk about true HD? There is no such thing. You have HD and then you have no HD. Plain and simple. You have two sets of resolutions that both qualify as HD and those two resolutions and those two alone compromise HD.

Let's just do some math, eh?

1280 x 720 = HD (Say yes or no) YES

1024 = 1280 (Say yes or no) NO
1366 = 1280 (Say yes or no) NO

In reality, then, only displays with 1280x720 or 1920x1080 can qualify as being HD. All the rest must resize, in some way or another. Even these HDTVs with these two resolutions must resize to accommodate the other, (A 1920x1080 HDTV trying to display a 1280x720 image or vice versa). One can easily argue: why does a TV who resizes an image not qualify as HDTV? Simple: because it must alter the image for it to fit.

Now the question remains, why does 1366x768 qualify as HDTV in a person's mind, while 1280x720 does not in the same person? Neither qualify as HDTV as they both contain the wrong pixel count. I'll tell you why, but this is only my opinion:

1366x768 contains more lines than the standard (1280x720) and thus people believe that since it not only matches the HDTV standard, it exceeds it, that it is then OK to qualify them as HDTV. When you go below the standard, it just doesn't feel 'right' to call it HDTV.

Thanks!

Quick edit:

...now the question remains, why does 1366x768 qualify as HDTV in a person's mind, while 1024x768 does not in the same person? Neither qualify as HDTV as they both contain the wrong pixel count. I'll tell you why, but this is only my opinion...

My bad.

Plasma's, for some reason or another, want to stick to 1024x768. Why would they do this at all? Look at all the unrest it's causing!

Hahaha, I just read alot of what was posted and I have to say it is a little obvious that Ward was just messing with your heads. I am sure by now he knows Panasonic and Pioneer are both coming out with 42 inch plasmas that have 1920x1080 resolution. Actually the Panasonic is available right now, you just have to look hard for it.

I have a question though. Why can LCDs (42" and below) produce a higher resolution and not plasmas (42" and below)?
