Uhm, folks, this is really old info (OP Feb 2006) and much of it is outdated.

Temporary image retention is now a recognized possibility with LCD's, for example.

I'm not sure why he thinks LCD's are *not* liquid. The Crystals themselves are injected as a thin film and can leak out if the panel gets cracked (uh, not that I've done that...uh very often, anyway...).

Image retention is not burn-in. Burn in is permanent. Image retention is temporary and can easily be solved.

This FAQ also assumes the parts in more expensive sets are longer lasting or more reliable. We don't know this, and infact we actually do know that many brands actually use the same parts.

And LCD isn't to replace plasma. It is just a different tech and is killing plasma in sales.

Disagree with #6

DisplaySearch Reports LCD TV Panels Enjoyed Record Quarter in Q2'07, Doubled Up on PDPs at 40"+ as Plasma Sales Remained Weak

"The LCD TV share of the 40"+ flat panel market rose from 42% in Q2'06 to 68% in Q2'07. "http://www.displaysearch.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-0A424DE8-FA4D19B0/displaysearch/hs.xsl/pr_224.asp

And" ... the average selling price of a 52″ 1080p LCD is now lower than that of a 50″ 1080p plasma HDTV. (Plasma still has a distinct price advantage at this size in 720p resolutions, but buyers are clearly moving to 1080p.) So LCD now owns the sizes where the vast majority of the sales are going to occur." http://hdtvprofessor.com/HDTVAlmanac/?p=530

Not when the information is 2 years old and way out of accuracy now.

In Obsurd's defense it may just be something that he didn't know before as it is a great primer for more modern LCD displays and, even the newest LCD projection TV's which are quite good.
