This is becoming more and more common. It seems cheaper to ship the components (especially glass for Plasma's) seperatly and assemble the product in Mexico. Panasonic is doing more and more of this, as it appears Sharp as well.

If this lowers price, then it can only be a good thing right?

Man, that really puts your tiers of quality in a state of confusion. Could you maybe modify the tiers a little now?

Actually i have tried to find reference online to his "tiers of quality" and any and all searches that include the words HDTV and Tiers refer to cable programming so i for one would really love to know where his "tiers of quality" come from as i would like to read up on it. I am a paying member at Consumer Reports and have seen nothing to his reference. Unless of course this is some device of his own manufacture, meaning, he made it up based on the set his parents let him watch when mommy and daddy let him out of his room!

(4) The manufacturer quality should be of more concern than the resolution of the plasma display. Purchasing a plasma from a quality manufacturer can make the biggest difference of all. I would rather have an EDTV 853X480 plasma TV from Sony, Panasonic or Pioneer than an 1024X768 HDTV plasma from lesser Taiwanese, or Korean manufacturers even for the same cost.

I have BOTH Plasma and LCD...how many here can say that..?

It's not even close boys...PLASMA buries LCD in 42" and above in many ways. Picture for one (duhhhhh), blacks, grays, viewing angle (no, I don't want to sit directly in front of my f'ing TV set, and neither to my guests..!..), color saturation, cost.

Unless you use your TV for things other than watching TV, Plasma is simply is the best fixed pixel technology out there, and getting better every year. I would never buy an LCD unless I was a gamer or I wanted to use it for computer use. The one I have...I do use it on a computer, but would never use it as my main viewing TV.

My 2 cents...but I seen the difference right in front of me..screw articles.

I have a 42" LCD tv and I think the picture quality is outstanding. I did a lot of shopping before I decided, and I really liked the pictures on the LCD TV's more than most of the plasma TV's I saw. The only exception was in the very high end Pioneer Elites, which I thought had the best picture of any TV, but were just way out of my price range.

I had 6 people over to watch movies last weekend, and no, we didn't all have to sit in a tight little circle right in front of the TV, in order to see the picture clearly. By the time I move far enough off to the side to notice a PQ dropoff, I am more annoyed by trying to watch the TV at that weird angle, than I am about it being washed out a bit. The viewing angles are certainly MUCH, MUCH better than any of the DLP TV's I looked at. Yet, there are many very happy DLP owners out there. Go figure...

Oh, and I do like the fact that the TV is much more energy-efficient than a plasma, considering my electric rates just went up AGAIN.

And, in the 42" size, sitting relatively close up (5' away), I could make out what looked like pixels on the screen, and that bothered me.

So, enjoy your plasma TV. I'm happy you like the picture and all. But, I don't care how many pronouncements are made regarding one technology over another. It comes down to a personal preference, and every post here is OPINION, not FACT.

I could'nt have said it better myself my friend. I agree with every last word you said. I was also quite bothered by the noticable pixels on the plasma displays. Who wants to have to sit a certain distance away from the television just to get a good picture? You have many others who feel the same way as you do.

Default LCD vs. Plasma picture quality? Check this out.........

Consumer Reports wrote this about an LCD HDTV (JVC LT-40FH96):

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/e...Term=lt-40fh96

"A strong performer; outstanding picture quality with both HD signals and DVDs, as good as the best plasma sets and better than most."
