The only reason Westinghouse is able to be listed in the top 5 for sales is PRICE and price only. When you are selling full 1080p 37" set's at hafe of what the larger name brand set's sale for you will have high sales per unit.

But Westinghouse don't even rank in the top 5, or come close to it when it comes to quality. Sharp, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic, and now Sony have a proven track record with LCD, and rank among the very best being made.

I know many people have bought Westy and are happy about their purchase, but how well will those set standup to the test of time and everyday use? It may be just a old saying but it still stands the test of time and that is "You get what you pay for" and I would rather spend a little more money on a proven brand than to test the waters of a brand that has yet to prove their worth.

The lamp has a 50,000 hour life expectancy, it has a FULL one year warrenty from the manufacture and if your still a little shakey, you buy the extended warranty that if used "properly" gets you a new and UP TO DATE TV near the end of the FIVE YEAR TOTAL WARRANY period.

or- you go out and spend 3 or 4 grand for a product made by someone who is making a product that hasnt been in business 1/10th as long as the Westinghouse name has been in the electrical business!!

I think you made a good choice by purchasing the Westinghouse LCD.I realize that the Westinghouse brand name has been around for a long time, but I don't think it has much of an impact on the LCD televisions they make now days. However, it is quite amazing that this company has just started making LCD televisions and they are already competitive with the big boys. I did quite a bit of research on LCD televisions before purchasing one for my bedroom. I did'nt need anything really fancy, but I definately wanted the most bang for my buck. I did not want anything bigger than 32" and I wanted to spend around 1K if possible. When I found the Westinghouse 32" HDTV Ready model for an amazing $899.00, I knew that was the ticket. With the extended three year warranty it came to just under $1100.00! So far this television has been very reliable and offers good PQ for a sub 1k LCD. All in all its a very nice (secondary) television for me. I later went on to purchase a Sharp Aquos
LC-37db5u for the living room. I got that set for an amazing price also, $1850.00 or 2k delivered!

Westinghouse puts out good price to ratio HD LCDs, that any rational tech geek or mainstream user would be pleased with.

Are they the best, no. But no one is saying they are. And they are far from crap.

The Westinghouse purchase by Toshiba has nothing to do with LCD TVs. Toshiba bought the Westinghouse Nuclear company owned by BNFL GROUP in England.

LCD TVs are made by Westinghouse Digital Electronics which licensed the Westinghouse name from its owner, Viacom.

Stupid question. Is Westinghouse part of White-Westinghouse? I always thought their appliances were sub par. But they are getting a lot of positive vibe on their LCD's.

White- Westinghouse is a product line of White Consolidated Industries of Cleveland, Ohio. In 1975, the Westinghouse major appliance business was acquired by White Consolidated Industries . They have numerous brands one of which is Frigidaire.

Again no relationship to LCD TVs.

George Westinghouse was a contemporary of Nicoli Tesla at the beginning of the last century, founding the parent of the companies you're talking about. He commercialized the Tesla invention of the AC induction motor & was instrumental in our use of AC power instead of DC like Edison wanted. But as a businessman, he wasn't so hot... Edison ate their lunch on a regular basis, even though they had the superior technology. Even though the powerplant at Niagra Falls specified AC generators, Edison got the contract to build it. When he couldn't get it to work, he had to hire Tesla as a consultant to fix it (phase relationships of wiring). When he sent a bill for the astounding sum of $100 Edison demanded an itemized bill. Tesla sent back "Making chalk marks of which wires to switch, $1. Knowing where to make chalk marks - $99."
