What is HD?

My LC-37DB5U is 1 month old. I have cable and a antenna hooked up to the back. Sometimes while watching either cable on channel 3 or HD on the other channels, the TV turns off for a minute and then turns back on. It does this a couple of times and then goes off forever. The green power light and the green OPC light blink on and off at the same time. I have to unplug the TV and then plug it back in to get it to work again. After a few minutes it all repeats again. I don't have any timers set and I am in Standby mode 2. Please help!

I have the same model set, and I have had no such problem. I know when I first purchased the set I left it on in the living room for quite some time, and came back and the set was off. I then when into the menu settings and turned the "auto off " features off. The TV was shutting off automatically because of no usage. I will look into this strange occurance some more and see what I can find.

My Aquos 45" has a menu setting which, when set, will turn the TV off if there is no activity (volume or channel change) after a certain amount of time (mine is set to 3 hours). A message comes on the TV alerting me in advance that the set will turn off.
If this is not the case for you, then you may have a problem. I seem to remember that this did happen once when I first set the unit up, and it was because the remote ACV was not turned on.

Here is a reviewer from Amazon.com:
Reviewer: Long Fellow "old one" - See all my reviews Received product and installed on a wall mount set up was easy required 3 people. Product had a great picture and the HD feature worked fine with the indoor ant. Problems started first day, set would turn off and on unbid but the power light stayed on. Thought at first it was cable company problem but found out it was a set problem. This went on for a week then the set went off power light stayed on and power could not be turned off with remote or switch, had to unplug the set. Called SHARP customer support and they scheduled an in home repair per contract guarantee. In home repair turned out to be set removal no attempt was made to repair in my home. Now set is gone guarantee is still running and SHARP says 3 work weeks is normal acceptable turn time if parts are available, if it is gone longer they may extend the guarantee time. Sent email to SHARP technical support asking if they were aware of this type of problem received no reply. Set met my expectations, quality of product and customer support is iffy at best. If you get a good one I think this is an excellent set longevity questionable. |

I disconnected the indoor antenna and just watched the TV using my cable box. The TV didn't shut down at all. I can't watch HDTV right now but at least I can still watch cable. I guess the TV doesn't like the cable and the antenna hooked up at the same time.
