Saturday night was my first time watching boxing live on HBO HD on TW Cable. I experienced some pixilation on my Samsung LCD during the faster moving scenes of the fight. I am concerned that this could be a response time problem with my TV but from reading other threads this could also be a problem because of the signal from the feed to TW. Could the STB also contribute to pixilation?
I've noticed little to no pixilation on the INHD channels while other channels seem to have more problems. I also did a lot of research before I bought my TV and never read any complaints in user reviews of pixilation problems. This leads me to believe it is more a signal problem than my TV. Any suggestions for testing this out more thoroughly? note - I have my TV hooked up with monoprice component cables.

find rbinck's blog (he is a moderator hereon and his posts have a link) and read his comments regarding blockiness (motion artifact) as well as 720 vs. 1080.
I often see blockiness with sporting and similar events on 1080i channels (CBS, NBC, HBO/Showtime boxing, Discovery HD, PBS). Never have a problem with normal HD programming such as prime-time dramas or movies. I also never have a problem with sports or movies, etc. on the 720 channels (Fox, ESPN, and ABC). Furthermore, I can freeze the blockiness with the DVR so I don't think my plasma is struggling to refresh quick enough. At least for a plasma, I think sports simply suck in 1080i or the networks (all that I've seen that use 1080) don't dedicate enough bandwidth. |

90% of all Pixilation or blockyness is caused by a poor signal, either from the source or from the reception.

it is a relief to read these comments - thx. I assumed it was the source because some programming is so consistently amazing in picture quality while others have the problem described above.
