Default Samsung LNR 409D is it worth the money?

Hi ladies and gents, been constantly pricing the 409d and it's down to 2339.00
Was a victim of a scam perpetrated by Amazon/ Target where they advertised it for 1899.00 and then said it was a mistake .
But I'm digressing.
Should I buy this or get the Sony 40" which is made by the same people I understand but is cheaper?
Seen many positive reviews on the 409 although I saw a 40" JVC that had a sharper image.
Another thing is that the 409 has no DVI inputs is that something I should care about?
Thanks

They are not entirely made by the same people. Don't let any salesman fool you. That is like saying the Honda and a BMW are made by the same people because they both have Michelin Tires or the headlamps are made by Sylvania. Perhaps only the glass is made from the same factory and a LCD or Plasma is more than who cuts the glass. The electronics behind the glass is the most important aspect to picture quality.

That sounds like an amazing price. Beware, Samsung only honors warranty from authorized dealers and that price is too low to be coming from an authorized dealer like a Brick and Morter or online:

www.cruthfield.com
www.vanns.com
www.onecall.com

What Store?

DVI is only important if you want to use your current DVD that has DVI. If not buy a new DVD player with HDMI. DVI is dead.

What he said. I have been less than impressed by the Korean manufactures on both the Plasma and LCD level.

What E55 said is right on. Great analogy with the tires!!! I am still surprised this lie is still spread by the salespeople at BB and CC. Both SONY and Samsung does use identical TFT panels made by their joint-venture company S-LCD. The panel is excellent. The difference is in the inner circuitry. You cannot compare the Samsung to the SONY in this regard. The SONY is tsunamis above Samsung. How much you are willing to pay for this difference, you have to decide.

As for sl7vk's statement. I agree. I am also not very impressed. They are superior to the Chinese electronic products though, but not for very long.

I don't know where you get that the Circuit city employees lie about who make the tv sets. Why in the world would someone tell that the sony and samsung are the same. It's funny, people do all this "factual" research online and when they get to the stores with a lot of this misinformation and are corrected, the employees are somehow to blame. Oh yea, like plasmas last 3 years, or that they leak, or they need to be recharged. Remember most of YOU people read this crap and believe it. It is just another cop out to blame someone else for your mistakes. By the way, you will never get that tv for 1899.99. Samsung is coming out with a new model soon and there will not be much of a difference in price.

Better yet, buy it online and when you don't know what you're doing with your new jewel of a tv, stop in to best buy or circuit city and waste their time when you do not understand something about the tv.

Because everytime I am at BB or CC, I see the salesmen tell their customers when I am standing in the LCD section that "Both the Samsung and SONY LCDs are the same. Samsung makes the TV for SONY". And people usually believe it and usually choose the Samsung because it generally costs less. Further, I am stating a fact not blaming anyone.

Good point. I didn't ever thought that I might have offended a CC or BB worker

How insensitive of me.

Sorry for all the car related analogies but I am a car nut first, HDTV second. Salesmen stretch the truth or lie to make the sale. Go into any Chrysler/Dodge dealer and the salesmen are telling people the 300C and Magnum are built on a Mercedes E-Class chassis and have Mercedes parts in them. When the truth is the 300C and Magnum only have similar Mercedes 'derived' technology and design to the chassis and parts (which is great). Their are no Mercedes parts in these cars - just similar design. Not one part is interchangeable. So should I not mention that the salesmen is is lying when I know he is?

What you failed to mention is that car salesman make a commission, the salespersons at Circuit City and Best Buy do not. So what would they have to gain other than a pissed off customer.

they may not make commission but they are judged and rated on sales numbers I bet. The more people they ring up has to mean something. They can not just stand around and not make some sales, what would be the point. They have some sort of internal competiton to sale. Also, what is the incentive to sale and push extended warranties and such. There has to be more to a CC and BB sale incentive when no commission is involved.. Otherwise the guy could care less if customers purchased and would not have to offer any comments or tell people the Samsung and Sony are the same thing. Why say anything at all?

Wrong again bub. NO COMMISSION - NO INCENTIVES - NO COMPETITION - NO BONUSES - just the pleasure of being employed
