Default Vizio TV's collecting your data

Hey All,

There was just a report on our news that Vizio has been collecting user data and selling it to advertisers (and presumably others) since 2010. They didn't clarify if there is a chip inside or what, but said your TV sends data back to the Vizio servers on your viewing habits and whatever else they want to know?

They claim that they didn't collect sensitive data like social security numbers or children's info, but the FCC didn't like it and has spanked them.

They were fined a whopping $2.2 million. http://bit.ly/2lomrCc

Don't know the particulars yet, but a class-action suit has been settled against them. You may want to sign-up and get your $1.98.

This is going on all the time. My cable sends me a reminder I have such and such channel with a statement about I must not know about it cause I don't watch it lately. Neilsen checks to see who is watching who. Microsoft collects your data. Google collects data. This is not surprising as we in this country have no privacy. If you don't believe me go to a site about something illegal and see how fast you are arrested.

On my Vizio there is an option in one of the menus to turn off usage reporting.
