Default Check out my 42" Samsung above fireplace...

Here's a pic of my 42" Samsung above the fireplace. The pic was taken from the viewing position on the sofa. The install went great, all the speakers and wires are concealed...but now I think it is too high!

If I lower the fireplace mantle even further (pic2) do you guys think it looks odd??

Are you able to tilt the screen downwards so it's perpendicular to your eyes? Also I wonder if there is going to be a heat issue with that fireplace?

The lower setting looks fine. You can buy a tilting bracket that would allow you to further change the height of the screen.

You shouldn't have to crane your neck to watch TV. The experts will tell you that while sitting, your eyeline should be at the bottom of the screen; thus looking slightly upward to view the TV.

Default Nice TV

Is that a DLP? I have that TV, and I love it.

The 1st fireplace looks great, but then again the TV looks too high.
The 2nd picture has a great TV height, but the fireplace surround looks lopsided.

What to do, what to do??? I know that with my TV, the picture "washes out" when you sit too far below the screen height.
But, then again, the only people who have a problem with it are my kids, who watch TV lying on the rug.

Enjoy!

Looks good in the lower position but the only thing that scares me is heat related problems and soot deposits, with either position ( as heat rises and usually carries some soot deposits with it) I have a wood burning fireplace( with pretty tight doors ) and the things on the mantle, pictures etc., always have a slight coating of soot and due to the sensitive nature of the frt panel screens, cleaning could eventually show some abrasive markings even if carefully cleaned on the front panel.

You've gotta get that TV down low at a comfy level. it seems way too high (even in the lower) position to cuddle up and watch a movie. and the fireplace comment is a good comment too! you DON'T even want the heat from the fireplace to come near the tv (BULB) because it will even lower the life expectancy of your DLP bulb too!

you might even want to see a chiropractor after a few weeks.

Actually we hardly ever use the fireplace, so I'm not too concerned with the heat issue. The mantle top should help direct the heat forward rather than directly above. Unfortunately I don't have another location to put the TV. There is a big window on the left and a sofa along the right wall. I guess all I can do is lower it a little...I know the fireplace mantle looks out of proportion, but what else to do??

Default Flame on!

OK, if you don't use the fireplace very often, why not place the screen in (well, in front of) the fireplace. I'm sure it would be more comfortable for viewing there. (....and with a good 'fireplace video' who would even need a real one.)(tacky, I know!)
