Default Lip Sync Issue with Vizio HDTV

Hi Guys!

Just bought a new 60" TV on Black Friday, a Vizio E601i-A3. The picture quality on this is nothing short of amazing, even on the non-HD programming, but I discovered 1 issue that has me quite upset, and I really don't want to have to disassemble it to return it to the point of sale after all the trouble my wife and I went through to set it and the sound system up.

When watching only the HD channels, I'm noticing a lip sync issue that routinely appears about every 15-20 minutes. The audio is off with the video by about 2-3 seconds, and doesn't return to normal until after I change channels.

I'm really enjoying this new TV, and as I stated previously I really don't want to have to return it to the store. My previous HDTV was a 42" LG and this was never an issue on any channel. Is this normal or a technical glitch or something to do with the cable feed??

Thank you.

True story I just bought the E701i-A3 model and ran into this once in the few weeks I have had it. The fix for me was a simple pause on live broadcast and then hit play and worked just fine even when I fast forward through the commercial and got back up to speed. No problem since. Oh and one more thing, If you have a surround sound system set up to it I suggest having the audio signal going straight from the TV to the main receiver not through the satellite or cable receiver, my previous Sanyo had this problem constantly which is when I figured it out.
tripod likes this.

If you do this with a digital cable (Toslink) you will not get surround sound into the receiver. HDTVs only pass stereo out for any input except their own internal tuners.

I'm not making this up.

I also got a Vizio 70 inch E701i-A3 and have the same problem a few times a night. It is usually watching recordings from Tivo or our cable DVR. We pause it and restart and everything is back in sync again. It is quite annoying and I have already called Vizio about this and getting ready to call them again because it just failed again. Vizio had me power cycle the TV and this did nothing. After the 2nd call they had me reset to factory defaults and we will see if that fixes anything but I have my doubts it will change anything. Their next "test" is to have us output our DVD to HDMI1 to see if it also gets out of sync. If it still happens then they will dispatch a service person to our house to fix it which doesn't sound like a great idea since I have only had it for 3 days now and may consider just returning it to Costco in that case.

I too have the "Lip Sync" Issue on my Vizio E601i-A3. I only have the problem on 4 HD Channels. My TV was Hooked up to DISH's VIP612 DVR/Receiver. We upgraded to the Hopper/Joey, Still had the Lip Sync issues on the same 4 Channels. I exchanged the TV or another E601i-A3, no Joy, still had the sync issue on the same 4 Channels. My Bluray Player played fine on both TVs. I also have Two 32" Vizios, One 42" Vizio and One 47" Vizio all interfaced in the Hopper/Joey setup, they have no issues, just the 60".......................

I also picked up the 60" Vizio on Black Friday and the only issue i've run into is after 15 - 20 minutes of use the TV will power off. If I turn the TV back on, everything continues to work without issue for the rest of the day.

I've called Vizio tech support and spoke with "Brett" he told me to swap out my HDMI 1.3b cable for a HDMI 1.4 and to change the audio settings on my Apple TV 3 to use PCM... According to "Brett" the TV is powering its self off because it is detecting a "harmfull" signal and powering off to protect its self.

Default me too... :(

I have this exact same issue with the 60" Vizio that I got.

It happens both from the XBox (when playing games...grr) and from my Windows Media Center.

Weird part, is that it worked fine for 4 days. starting on Day 5, (without changing any settings) it started having this problem.

I've reset all the settings to factory, etc... no dice. It happens often after as little as 10 seconds, and the only way to fix it is to pause the video and restart, or change the input and back (xbox).

I've come to the conclusion that this thing is going back. Just don't know what I'm gonna replace it with.

Default I figured out what's not working right

Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio causes the TV to bugger the sync

I set the XBox to Stereo, fixed it.

I set the Media Center to do volume leveling (which then causes it to not pass the audio directly from the stream) and that fixed it.

now, I consider this to be an ugly bug, and if Vizio doesn't fix it in the next month or two, the TV is going back.

Default LIP SYNC Issue- Vizio E601i-A3 HDTV

Vizio HDTV- Lips out of sync
Anyone with a new Vizio E601i-A3 60” or 70” HDTV that is having audio “Lips out of sync problems” with a cable or satellite box.
On Comcast cable boxes (or others), here’s what you need to do: FIND MENU for AUDIO or HDMI setup on CABLE BOX or Satellite Box.
FOR COMCAST
1. Turn on TV and have Cable box Turned OFF.
2. Press MENU on COMCAST REMOTE.
3. Go to AUDIO Setting OR HDMI Setting. (On cable or Sat. BOX)
4. Change setting from Auto to L-PCM. (Turn off cable box to exit)
This should resolve any “out of sync” lips to picture after commercials on HD channels.
*This is a handshaking issue from the cable box to the Vizio E601i-A3

But Lpcm is only 2 channel stereo and defeats the purpose of DD 5.1. Multichannel pcm (M-PCM) would be a better choice.

Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM) can support up to 8 channels of Audio.

My bad I wasn't paying attention to HDMI and thought you were talking optical which is limited to 2ch stereo due to bandwidth. This is a frequent issue pcm vs codec and I wasn't careful sorry.

I have DISH's Hopper connected to the 601. I changed the Audio setting from PCM/Dolby to PCM only in the Hopper, that cured the Lip Sync issue in my 601....................................
