Default sony led nx720 or panasonic plasma st30

I have narrowed tv search to these two models. One panasonic 55" plasma or sony nx720 55" led. They are 1499$ sony and 1200$ for the panasonic. I an not interested in the 3d aspect but they both come with that. Tv would be used for regular viewing, blu-ray movies, sports and some minimal gaming. any imput on what is a better set would be great. i saw cnet has the sony as an editors choice.

Got the Sony KDL46NX720 1 week ago for $999.99 at Best Buy.

Great price and great PQ on what I hope wil be a trouble free FPTV.

Like the frameless "gorilla glass".

Can't speak yet of the 3D as I haven't bought the 3D glass nor watched a 3D movie.

I just got the NX720 a few weeks ago. We love it so far. It has great picture quality and despite the fact that we didn't originally look for a lot of extra features we love the wireless internet as it makes it so easy to watch movies and TV episodes on Netflix and Hulu. We also love the style of the all flat gorilla glass screen. It looks great in the living room and despite the glossiness, it does not seem to glare when the TV is on.

If you search on this forum though, you will also see that the Panasonic you are looking at is very highly regarded. I would break it down to say that it really comes down to where you prefer a LED/LCD or Plasma display. We preferred the brighter screen of the LED and also didn't want to worry about breaking in the plasma. Not that it would have been that arduous but my husband and I work a lot and just wanted a set we could switch on in the evenings and not think about it.

What helped us was going to a couple different stores that stock both TVs and see how they look in diffferent lighting. Our HHGregg store has a much dimmer showroom than Best Buy so it allowed us to see the screens in different context. Either way you go you will probably be thrilled with your new TV as both are great choices!
