For viewing I agree eye level is best. But that will look low when mounted on a wall. What looks best for the room is at a picture level height. If the TV is mounted high, it is best to use a tilt mount so the line of sight is perpendicular to the tv screen plane.

The experts say the centerline of the screen should be the same height as your eyes are when you're reclined in TV watching position so your line-of-sight is level with the floor. But like Jim says that can place the TV low on the wall and most people would think that looks weird. Some people like me prefer their plasma be low, others like it way high. Mine is just high enough that when i'm reclining with my feet up, the bottom of the screen is just high enough that my feet don't block any part of the lower screen.

You might want to make a full size cardboard mock-up of the TV and stick it to your wall and see if it's a comfortable height from your seating positions. Try different heights.

I agree with Randy. I used 3/8 inch plywood(thats all I had that big) and cut out a piece to the exact size of my plasma(50"-Pioneer-50" wide/28" tall) It gives you a very good perspective of your preferred height. I mounted mine about 41" high-which takes it up to 69" high. I'm very happy with this height. It is a very comfortable to watch/I'm not straining to watch because its higher. This opinion is shared by everyone thats been over and watched for any length of time. I think the theory is mount your plasma like your hanging a picture. Thats what worked for me..................

According to the Home Theater Workshop recently broadcast on DIY network,
"the center of the screen should be no higher than 15-degrees above the viewer, and the top of the screen should be no more than 35-degrees above the viewer."

This is very good advice. I made a template and placed it on my wall for a couple of weeks. I spoke to 3 different "experts" at different retailers. They all gave me the same advice: "The bottom edge of the screen should be at eye level" when sitting. This was very good advice, but I verified it. I'm quite happy with the chosen height after 6 months of ownership.

By the way, before I buy a piece of furniture or hang a lamp I do the same thing. I cut out a template and live with it for awhile.
