When will a BIG MAJOR PRICE DROP happen on the LCD HDTV'S???It has been in the news lately that there is a big price drop. WHERE??? I know the Samsung 40 inch LCD HDTV I own was $4,500 in April 2005 and I bought it in July 2005 for $3,599..and with tax it was $3,999. But the way they write things in the paper they make it seem like the price will come down all at once ! And it's not...it takes Months. I read that the reason for the price drop is because more manufactureres are selling LCD HDTV's..and therefore prices are going down.

I think you answered your own question. Also, trends in price and technology take place over in Asia first, so the major (but gradual)price declines seen on lcd tv's in Japan will be seen here eventually, but I dont think it will be major enough to notice at least until '06.
Furthermore, I think lcd price drops have been over-shadowed by other technologies' price drops, namely plasma prices, by the likes of panasonic, where a year ago their lowest 42'' was 5500 and is now 3000. |

Gradual is definitely the word. Prices are gradually and steadily dropping. You can get more for your lcd tv dollar today than even as recently as six months ago. Some models only remain current for as little as 6 months, then get bumped by newer tech at lower prices.
Here's another example: About a month ago, Sony displayed their brand new XBR lcd flat panels on their website - for about one day. Then they mysteriously withdrew them. Now, they're back on the website and apparently ready for sale - at lower prices than when they were initially shown a month ago! Competition is fierce among manufacturers and, as noted above, between technologies. Always good for the consumer. Al |

rickbbb, saving $1k on a TV sounds like a big price drop to me? If your LCD is the LN-R408D it goes for $2,699 at www.onecall.com and they are authorized internet dealers.
Perhaps you should also take a look at other LCD makers besides Samsung. Sharps new fall line-up has drastic price drops over the models they replace. Consider these MSRP's: 2005 LC-37D7U $5,499.99 then $4,999.99 2006 LC-37D6U $3,599.99 2005 LC-37GB5U $4,999.99 then $4,499.99 2006 LC-37DB5U $3,299.99 The new Sony 40" (KDL-V40XBR1) retails for $3499.99. Last year Sony's KDL-42XBR950 was $10k.
