I think Robert's previous statement should explain why Runco wasn't represented.

Robert for the shoot-out his company sponsers annually, probably at great expense to do so and they desereve a big pat on the back.....I guess in a perfect world however we could see an HD display shoot out with all makes and models of HD Displays included, projectors, RP, Flat-panel and some of the unfamiliar manufacturers included with what they have to offer....names like Loewe, and Runco... manufacturers you rarely see mentioned on this forum if ever. Perhaps in the future the HDF can host an all inclusive HD shootout of that nature, HD is after all what we do!..... ![]() Hey!, I know let's get Lee Stewart to do it......He's Rich!

Robert. The set you had in the shootout were the sets the MFGs sent you right? I mean they determined what set represented them correct?

Well yes, in a way... Because the C8000 has precision dimming Samsung recommended the UN55C8000.
For different reasons Sony's LCD product manager, Robert Rodriguez and Pablo Espinoza wanted to show Sony's KDL-55NX810 because it was Sony's latest mid year LED and has a stunning monolithic design and it was a 55" panel. The XBR-909 is 52". Our class was 55" or larger LED and plasmas 58" or larger. It turned out to be a wise choice as Sony's NX810 performed beautifully and looked gorgeous when on and off. -Robert

I commented on the article. A couple of people thought that other Sony models should have been chosen for it, but me & another poster reminded them that it was Sony's choice what to send.

No, I don't think that follows. ValueElectronics also does not sell the Sony NX810, but they still used one in the shootout just because that's the one Sony wanted them to use. Heck, they even tried to get a TV that is not available for sale anywhere in the US, but the maker wouldn't do it. Having been to three of the shootouts now, I am confident that they are not about drumming up sales: they're about testing and comparing the top TVs and about trying to drive the technology forward. Yours, David EDIT: D'OH!! I posted before I read the other replies on this. Sorry, pappylap--didn't mean to throw in a bunch of redundant stuff that you've already addressed. NOTE TO SELF: always read the full thread before posting replies. D'oh d'oh d'oh d'oh d'oh. |

We tested many TVs from just about every major manufacturer and the ones that made it into the final selection were the ones that delivered the very best pq. For example we picked Samsung's UN55C8000 over the more expensive UN55C9000. The C8000 delivers a better pq as the precision dimming can control the black level in smaller areas of the panel yielding a higher contrast ratio. Strictly for overall pq, several manufacturers and models were eliminated so the ones that made the shoot-out are the finalists. -Robert

Sweet!
Great work Robert and it is nice that your store can get some national exposure for all the hard work you have done for all these years with the annual shootout.
