I just bought a Samsung UN55C8000 240Hz LED TV and I personally cannot STAND the Soap Opera Effect. It's absolutely disgusting.
I've tried turning off Auto Motion Plus but the problem persists (although at a slightly reduced level). The best fix so far has been to set Auto Motion Plus to "Clear," but even that isn't a solution. It seems that no matter what setting I put this stupid TV on this stupid Soap Opera Effect continues at some level. From reading posts from other users it sounds like if I take this piece-of-crap TV back to the store and get a plasma TV then I won't ever have to deal with the Soap Opera Effect again. Is this true? Another question: considering that some people actually LIKE this Soap Opera Effect (no idea how that's possible, but whatever), wouldn't those people consider it a FLAW that plasmas don't display it? What's the industry perception about this effect right now? |

Yes, plasma's do not have this problem, because they do not need the artificial blur enhancement.
I've never seen a TV that you couldn't turn it all the way off with though. regarding your other post, having to worry about burn-in or image retention, to be fair and balanced about it, there are SEVERAL users here that game heavily on a plasma, and none of them have reported any burn in. to be clear also, image retention and burn in are two seperate things, image retention is a very temporary short term phenomenon that happens when something is left up on the screen to long, it usually goes away in a matter of minutes iirc(someone with a plasma please correct me if i'm wrong.) whereas burn in is a permanent thing, and is almost no longer an issue, you REALLY have to abuse a TV to get it to burn in. however this does require a slight bit more conscience effort, and in my OWN personal opinion, makes me worry too much. for this I like LCD or LCD-LED's better, they can produce a very nice picture, and some of the nicer models start to come close to your plasmas. however plasma has the very best for picture quality overall.

It is not a "flaw" in plasmas to NOT ALTER the source material, but rather some people's tastes make them want something that DOES ALTER the source material and they should buy accordingly.
