Default samsung screen fit with hdmi

I am having problem with Dish Network HD box, HDMI cable, and Samsung HD TV where upper and lower portions of image are cropped. Superbowl was great, but it was irritating not knowing time or down due to info banner being out of view. I have tried all combinations of screen sizes and modes on tv and hd sat tuner. From reading other posts, it seems Samsung is common denominator. Apparently, composite connection will correct problem, but what a shame to go back to analog cabling! Is there no digital way out? I have spent too much time and money to resort to a non-hd setup! This is bogus!! This is same issue as Poolmon had in December, but his thread seemed to fizzle without solution. I can't believe that this isn't pissing more people off! There must be a solution, but I need to understand the problem. Does anybody know exactly what is happening here?

Is the Dish box set to 16x9 and 1080i?

Have you pushed the zoom button on the Dish remote ( * key next to the 0) until the picture displays normal?

Your failure to respond to L2W must be because of your total frustration.

The only thing you can do (as you have already tried "all combinations of screen sizes and modes on tv and hd sat tuner") is cancel your Dish service and get a DirectTV set up. Throw avay the HDMI and get component cables. Scrap the Samsung tv and get a new Panasonic or Sanyo. Then have the DirectTV installer set it up for you. This WILL work!

Default ok, I panicked

I pushed the "p.size" button on the Sammy remote and went through the Dish box menus a million times, buuuuuutttttt, I didn't push or understand what the "*" (also "format") button was for in the lower left hand corner of my Dish remote. L2W - you rock! I had looked for a "zoom" button, but, finding none, I figured the only way to change video formats was through the Dish menus, which you can, but they were not effective. As L2W revealed, the "zoom" button is actually the "*" or "format" button in the lower left hand corner of the dish remote. Thank God and L2W too!

BTW, Rick, I'm keeping my Sammy as I love the brightness, color, and non-glare of my Samsung B630 in my well-lit and south-facing window room. So, Samsung, I owe you an apology. And, I really like the Dish Network hardware (other than the elusive zoom/*/format button). I had a DVR long before the Cable and Direct folks and still like the Dish menus, guide, and features far better than what I have fiddle with on friend's Cable and Direct hardware. And, I pay less and have Sirus/XM to boot, yeeessss! So, I am very happy with my setup, and I guess I just got frustrated over my fellow spectators asking how much time was left in the game (because the down/time banner was off screen). However, none of my sharp-witted knuckle-head friends (aka oxymorons) could figure it out, so I don't feel so bad. Again, thanks L2W.
