Default Samsung, Ps3, Zoom?

So i picked up a few blu rays to watch on the new set today. (up and 88 minutes). Up looked absolutely amazing on cinema smooth. if theres any bug with cinema smooth my eye wasnt good enough to see it! So I popped in 88 minutes and no matter what I did I couldnt zoom in enough to ditch the black bars? so I turned it off as im still breaking in. I had the tv zoomed in as much as possible and still had about a half inch of black bars on the top and bottom. I looked thru the ps3 settings and couldnt find a zoom in feature. I know my xbox has it but my xbox doesnt play blurays haha. Anyone know any other way to zoom in more?

Why would you want to zoom in and distort the picture? Watch it in it's native aspect ratio, probably 2.35:1 or 2.40:1. The "black bars" will blend in after a while and you won't even see them.

I don't care about the black bars. But the tv is brand new and I'm still breaking it in. So I'm avoiding them right Now.

Ahh, well most Blu-rays you get will have the black bars associated with them unless the movie is presented in 1.78:1 or 1.85:1. So you must read the back of the movie and look for this. You could always run some break in slides or a break in DVD...

Hope this helps.

Today's plasma's do not need to be broken in. The only thing that needs to be done is the settings should be adjusted so its not too bright..etc. But you can watch normal content without distorting the picture.

I have read many post on this forum about breaking in plasma's and disc and downloads for breaking in a plasma. So is it neccesary or not?

Just watch the movie, if you want to see it; it is not going to damage your TV.

You do not watch to ONLY watch movies with black bars, but as long as full screen video is mixed in and you keep the contrast at 50% you should be fine. That is how I used my plasma when I got it back in 2008 with no problems.

The key is keeping contrast at 50% and limiting the black bars during the first 200 hours.

It was necessary at one point, but isn't anymore.

Did manual's ever say anything about breaking the TV in the past? i know my current one doesn't.

As PFC5 said, just lower the settings and watch a mix of programming. That's all I've done and my TV is fine.
