Default Value of Broken TV

I have a 46" Samsung HDTV with a broken LCD. It powers up, lights up, but you can see (when it is on) cracks in the LCD panel.

I saw somewhere that the replacement screen is more than $750 but there is a "core" trade-in of $500 or so.

I'm trying to decide whether to repair it, or just sell it for the parts. I'm interested in feedback from others who have been there.

I'd say if you can get the display panel replaced for ($750-$500=) $250, GO FOR IT!

How did it get broken?

Default It got broke before I got it...

Found it next to a dumpster. Looked PERFECT ... until I plugged it in. The thing must have SOME value.

From the looks of it, something fairly heavy impacted it. You can't see any damage until you turn it on, but when it is on, it is fractured internally all across the inside. Maybe someone took a bat to their cheatin' lover's TV, maybe a drunk didn't like how the game was going...

It has functioning power supply, signal processing board, audio processor, EVERYTHING is fine, except the fractured screen.

Is it really totally valueless? Come on, someone out there wants those parts for something, don't they?

If you want to take it apart and list the items on e-bay. Problem is someone will need the parts for them to sell. When we get cracked unit back, out in the trash they go....

Sold it for $75 to a guy who had two others, he was going to make a good one from parts of 3 trashed ones. Drove down here from Dallas to get it!
