Default Sony 46XBR4 LCD TV vertical lines across entire screen no image no sound

I have a 2 year old Sony 46XBR4 LCD TV that recently is displaying vertical lines that are a pixel wide of multiple colors displaying across the entire screen. Has anyone seen this type of problem with a LCD TV and know what a remedy might be? I have a picture below of the screen.

Thanks!

Is that on what should be a black screen since the screen looks purple?

It could be a bad panel or a bad circuit board as the problem but I would only be guessing which it could be.

For kicks, try unplugging the power to the TV for an hour or so and see if this resets something. It does work sometimes and is free to try.

Good luck!

Default Sony now fixing kdl-46xbr4 screen problems free in home through 9/2012

Sony is now extending the warranty on the LCD display and will fix the problem for free through September 30, 2012. See: esupport dot sony dot com then /US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=378&mdl=KDL46XBR4 Call their customer service number and they will give you a case number. Then call one of their authorized service centers and they will fix it free, in home.

Default Sony TV Vertical Lines

Just wondering if you ever found the solution to the problem with the vertical lines on your Sony 46" TV. I have the same problem.

Me too. Same issue. What's it need?

Seem lots of folks are having the same problem.

Best I can tell is that the extended service applies to Sams Club TV's, based on the model number. Mine's a Costco so it's not on the list. Also, the extended service on the above link goes through the end of this month, not last as posted.

3 years and 18 days old... 18 days out of extended warranty, too.

Thanks for providing a link to a service bulletin which might affect this model, and the recommendation for Facebook. I sent an email directly to SonyListens at the address posted on Facebook

The set has been telephone diagnosed as needing an LCD panel.

I see the replacement panel for the service bulletin affected models, despite having different part numbers, are the same as for the model we have. I asked if they could extend the service bulletin to cover the model we bought at Costco.

Will post what happens.

Good luck, keep us posted and remember you'll achieve more if you remain calm and deal with them patiently.

I spoke with them and it didn't go well.

They clearly stated that since it is out of warranty, even 18 days, that it's my responsibility to repair it.... yet the LCD panel is reportedly not available.

I was offered a comparable 46" recertified model for $579 plus tax with a 90 day warranty.

Costco is selling a Sony with, I think it was a 42" screen, for $500 with their two year warranty and a $30 third party 3 year warranty extention... total of 5 years.

I'll buy another TV at Costco, but it sure won't be a Sony. Nor will it be a $1200 set.

Can't beleive that it worked fine until 18 days out of warranty, then it's off to the dump. This set probably has the least number of operating hours of any three year old set. Really disappointed in the outcome.

Paid for a repair estimate to send them, too. It was officially diagnosed as a bad LCD panel.

Confirmed Sony won't have any consideration as it's out of warranty, doesn't matter than it's just a few weeks.

Any recommendations?
