I know this is an old issue, but I couldn't find any resolution on this so far.
I have a Samsung LN46B650 tv. Which is 1080p compatible. I have a DirecTV HD-DVR and a PS3. All of which worked fine Sunday morning. Well my PS3 took a dump and I had to restore it, which made it go through the setup of the system. The first thing that happen was for the PS3 system to detect the HDMI cable that was hooked up, so the PS3 tried to do the "handshake" with the Samsung, once this happen and the display went black, I know get the "Mode Not Supported" message, so the only resolution that I get is 480p. I was getting all the resolutions only hours before.--So it's not the cables, or the port, this is strictly the handshake issue. Does anyone know what can be done for the Samsung TV to accept the resolution/HDMI "handshake"??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

There are a couple things you can try.. Unplug both the device and TV for a few minutes. Plug them back in and power up the TV and then device and see what happens.
Also, check to see if there is a firmware update for your TV and verify your new PS3 is on the latest firmware... Try a different HDMI cable if you have not already, but doubt that is it. Worse case is to connect your PS3 via component cable and optical/analog for sound., but you should be able to resolve the handshake issue (hopefully)...

It is likely that right after the restore that you are at the original firmware and that is causing the problem. Also check the settings as well in the PS3 after first upgrading the firmware to the latest version as Bigloww stated.

I check the firmware on the Samsung and the PS3 both are at the most current versions.
Definitely not the cables... Tried the power down solution, but same result.... Anybody got another suggestion...???? The only one left, that I came up with, is taking my PS3 to a friends place with a 1080p TV, getting the PS3 through the initial setup then taking home to see if once it's set up if it will work....just seems like a lot work for something that has been working for the last 10 months(since I bought the TV in April of 2009)... |

ok, I got the Samsung to accept 720 and 1080i resolutions from the PS3, but I am still getting "mode not supported" when I try getting 1080p from the PS3---any suggestions out there of why???

Considering you have a 2009 display I would say the inputs are defective and Samsung needs to replace them, since your display SHOULD accept 1080p.
