Default SONY 52V5100 LCD help! calibration etc....

I've read and tried the calibration settings on this forum about my SONY KDL-52V5100 Bravia LCD, but the setting were dim?

I know to always put the ACE (advance contrast enhance) to the "OFF" position.

What else should I do?

also, I have TimeWarner HD box, and on the Palladia Channel (Concert Channel) when the concerts are at night (dark scene) with lots of lights, the picture becomes very pixelated everytime? what setting should my t.v. to stop the pixelation?????

i have 120hz....this is not suppose to happen??????

Just remember that the contrast/picture setting makes it brighter and the brightness setting adjusts the black levels. Knowing this if it looks too dim you would increase the contrast and lightly should lower the brightness and possibly the backlight level after raising the contrast.

Many people get confused about which setting controls the white/bright levels and which controls the black levels.

Unfortunately a long time ago they chose "Brightness" as the measure/adjustment for black levels but because of choosing that name many people falsely think this controls brightness. The Contrast/Picture setting controls the white/brightness of the picture while the brightness setting controls how dark the black levels are.

this is WHY I am saying you need to increase the contrast if the picture appears dim, and lower the brightness setting if the colors seem washed out. ALso remember that when you calibrate a display it is usually using settings to match the lighting when you do the calibration. If you do that when the room is dark then you have the correct settings for when the room is dark, but it will be dimmer when the room is bright. I have two settings for when there is an extreme difference in room lighting because of this.

Hope this explains it better so you understand what i previously posted.

Look also into a firmware upgrade from Sony. Many of Sony's sets have an overly active auto-dimming (light sensor) feature and many owners complained to Sony about dark pictures, so a fimware upgrade was issued.

Have you already checked to see if you've turned off the light sendor... check page 153 of the online manual... http://www.docs.sony.com/release/V51...erencebook.pdf
