I was looking into possibly purchasing this tv -SONY's KDL-52XBR9. Cnet and its reviewers gave it 4 out of 5 stars..which means very good.Yet I looked on other websites where it was given an excellent rating. Any thoughts on what you think of this tv and what is the BEST and excellent LCD HDTV out there that also has widgets on it.
I LOVE Sony tvs and what 52 inch anjd up model Sonys are the best? |

I would take a Toshiba Regza over that model. Better off axis viewing and black levels.

The tv set you suggested has mixed reviews on the best buy link you put in your posting about it.It got 4.2 out of 5..review wise by its customers who bought this tv.One person said it has a horrible picture, others said the picture looks good. Some one else said it is not compatible with just any hdmi cable, only compatible with an hdmi 1.3 cable.
Cnet.com doesnt even have this tv under their reviews or listed at all. The thing I liked about looking at the tvs specs on the best buy website was the price.Great price. |

I had the 46XBR9 for about 30 days and I returned it a week ago. The reasons why that I returned it are:
1. Clouding issues 2. Flashlights on the lower right corner of the screen 3. Uneven backlighting My Panasonic TC-P46G15 Plasma tv will be arriving to my home today that I ordered last week and I know its a better tv than the 46XBR9 that I returned last week. Have you considered looking into Panasonic Plasma tv's (G series or V Series)? |

IMHO the one person who reviewed it as a horrible picture may not have had hd!! I know someone who is on this board who bought a 37 inch samsung open box at BB that was returned for a bad picture!! The person on the board here adjusted it and it works great! I would say go and look at some tvs and be happy what you decide!! After alll it is your money!! Enjoy and get a good one!! |

I had KDLXBR5 the best TV I ever owned ,then my home was broken into and along with other items went my tv.
Now I have purchased KDL52XBR9 everything is great except the uneven clouding which is also seen thru black picture not only between channels. After reading about it on internet becasue I never had this trouble with xbr5 I brought TV back to store and they replaced with new in box set got home this set also has clouding in different parts of screen. I called sony they told me to call local repair thru my sony warranty guy came out looked at TV said I never seen that before and that he will call sony tech to ask them. I called back to get results he said sony said that is optimal settings for TV nothing they can do. I will be calling sony tonight again to get more aggrevated. |

I almost bought the Sony KDL-52XBR9 and thankfully read the many reviews about those clouding problems.I will NOT be buying that tv.You should bring the tv back and get rid of it.The clouding problem with the XBR9's is very common now.Sony sold their assembly plants in Mexico who have installed this awful problem.

i have this TV (52") and the clouding isn't that bad.. you can only see it when there is no picture.. other than that, the people look like their going to pop out the TV.. picture is what matters not the black screen when there is no picture, it doesn't bother me. unless you're going to stay and stare at a blank screen i can't see a big deal..

Why pay so much more for this expensive display with defects even when new?

personally the samsungs to me have blown away the Sonys...probably just my personal veiwing prefrences and would rate them above the Sonys. Though there have been some concerns on this board over Samsungs somewhat cavalier attitude on CS. I beleive people will be taken care with Samsung but it seems you may have to work at it which isnt right. Previously though I had heard nothing but great discussions concerning their CS.

I remember when Samsung had much better Customer service with their DLPs when they had issues. Those days seem gone unfortunately though.
