I have a 50" samsung tv, with comcast 1080 stb, ps3, and laptop for streamed video all hooked up via hdmi. Yesterday I purchased a cheap all in one box dvd player/5.1 surround sound. I got it really cheap otherwise I would have bought a real av receiver. The all in one is a panasonic SC-PT480. It only has 1 toslink input and I'm running it from the tv. The tv only outputs stereo sound to it because of the hdmi connection from my stb. The panasonic dvd/receiver changes it to surround for me but it isn't what is fed to it. I would rather hook the receiver straight to the comcast stb, but then will not be able to use the receiver for my ps3 or laptop without switching the toslink. My question to someone who is a little more knowledgable is there a significant difference Im going to notice with such a cheap surround sound system by having the receiver change the stereo sound to surround rather then have the stb send a 5.1 signal. Do you think its worth the trouble of switching the toslink. Or with such a cheap surround sound system it doesn't really matter?

Thank you for the help. I just found this forum and have enjoyed reading posts.

Hey everyone. I'm moving to an apartment in Storrs, Connecticut and they only offer basic cable through a provider called Elauwit which provides both cable and internet. I was informed that I would not be allowed to bring Comcast (which I love) with me, nor have cable installed by any other provider such as ATT, DirecTV ect. Aside from getting no premium channels other than HBO, I've been told I can not get any HD channels except from CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX. This is EXTREMELY disappointing to me and makes me reluctant to even move in as I LOVE my DVR and HD picture. Is there any way at all that I can bring in some sort of device in order to at least get channels like ESPN, USA, TNT in high def? I have 2 state of the art Samsung TV's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm really bummed out...

I just reviewed an excellent video by Ed re: Onkyo TX-SR606 HDMI board capacitor repair. I have the same problem with an Onkyo TX-SR876 but the HDMI boards are not the same. Does anyone know how to locate the capacitors that need replacing?

I have just very recently connected a Pioneer (VSX-43) receiver to add surround sound. I have a Sony Bravia KDL40S504, Directv H22 receiver and Apple TV to complete the setup. Components are input to the receiver which is output to the TV by HDMI. All are working great as far as I can tell. Sounds great. I have a couple of questions that I can't find the answer in the AVR manual or by online search.

1. When the Pioneer AVR is first turned on, there is a click which is followed by a second louder click. The AVR then appears to ready to work and I then turn on TV and component. If I turn the TV on or a component first, this AVR second loud click will turn everything off. I am sure there are no speaker wires wrongly connected. But I want to make sure this AVR click issue is ok and just a case of needing to turn the AVR on first.

2. Do I need to turn AVR off before switching between my 2 component inputs or is it ok to just use the AVR remote input button to switch to directv from the Apple TV input.

As I said everything is working fine but I want to make sure I don't do anything to damage it.
