Which do you think is best for the new High Definition LCD TV's? Is it best to turn it on and leave it on for the course of the day and evening, or is it better to turn it off and on several times a day depending on your viewing needs?

I'm not interested in saving electricity, but more concerned which is best for the TV. We have Vizio monitors on our CNC machines at work, and they are left on 24/7. None have failed in the 3+ years we've had them. They are in a poor environment as well. Lots of dirt and vibration.

We, (just my wife and I), usually turn it on, (65" Vizio LCD), around 10:00 AM, and leave it on until we go to bed, which is usually around 9:00 PM. Several times a day it can run for an hour or more with neither of us viewing it. I've heard it's better to leave them on, rather than to be turning them on and off every few hours. What do you guys think?

Hey guys and gals. I own a p55st50 Panasonic 55 inch plasma flat screen. I absolutely love it. Purchased it last year. You guys helped me pick it out. Want to hook it up to the Internet. Mainly just want it for YouTube and Netflix. Let me tell you about the setup. Comcast is my provider. My main computer is a custom built gaming rig. Probably invested over 4 grand into building the PC. It's a beast. Ultra fast with a bad @$$ video card. Combined with a very high end ASUS wireless router. This wifi router cost me around $300. It has 5g wifi speed. its also dual band. I get an excellent wifi signal all the way down to the end of the driveway. Never hooked up a tv to the Internet. I know you can run a cable from the router to the back of the plasma. Or you can get a wireless adapter. Given the nature of my PC setup I kinda want to go wireless. What are some good wireless adapter brands? Also after the tv is hooked up to the internet how do I go about setting up YouTube and Netflix thru the tv? Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

A bit of an odd question, but as the title says, I'm wondering if it's possible for an LCD HDTV to be on and displaying an image like normal when it's on its back. Long story short, I'd like to have a large display screen in the middle of a table that everyone sitting around it will be able to see information off of. Kinda like that Microsoft Surface/Pixelsense touch table idea, except without the touch interaction of course.

The main issues of consideration I could think of with this setup seem to be the weight distribution (since the screen itself would be on top of any electronics are behind it), heat dissipation, and whatever issues might arise in the actual LCDs tilted at an angle 90 degrees from how they normally would be. I don't think the weight would be much of a problem since it would be stationary the whole time (and even HDTV manuals suggest you lay it flat for cleaning or assembly), but I'm not sure if the LCD displays in HDTVs work properly at that angle. As for heat build-up, I can also prop up some "legs" at the edges and behind the VESA mount locations so that it's not entirely flat against a surface, and could probably even put a small fan under it if that would help too, but I don't know how hot the TV normally gets or how heat normally travels through it. It would only be used like this for a 3-4 hours straight and not more than once a week or so.

The specific TV in question I was thinking of using is the Westinghouse EW46T4LZ, which is a 46" LED backlit LCD HDTV. It's a little big, but it seems relatively thin and light for its size, so I thought it might actually be able to work with this. If not, no big deal since it's honestly somewhat more of a novelty/gimmick idea, but I thought it might be a fun little project to try.

I have an Xbox 360, a Blu-Ray player and a Comcast box for cable television. The problem is my sound system is only capable of using the old red/white RCA cables. So my question is.. is there a way to get everything hooked up to be able to work with the sound sytem? This whole thing is overwhelming for me.

6. We are looking for the best bang for our buck.
7. Not interested in 3D.
8. We can control the lighting in the room down to about 40% with blinds.
9. Hoping to spend 400 to 500 dollars.
10. There will sometimes be people watching at multiple viewing angles. Seldom from straight on.
11. Most of the watching will occur after sunset.

Lastly we do not need any Smart features (netflix, hulu, etc.). I don't mind if they are there as long as I am not paying more for them.

Thank you for any help.

Problem started this weekend, turned TV off and it turned back on. Immediately thought it was remote(s) and tried the "pulling the battery fix". That seemed to work.

This morning it started doing it again i tried pulling the batteries again with no success. The TV just kept coming back on after using remote to shut off, immediately pull battery and then tv turns on again.

Have been searching and found that bad EMI filters might be the culprit. Not sure if this is right for my problem and seeing if anyone out there has any ideas on what it can be.

I've stripped down and rebuilt many PC's in my day so if a board needs replacing I'm pretty confident i can do that. If it involves soldering though that's a different story.

The first time my tv done this, I replaced three caps on the power supply board. Then it worked great, then I laid it on the floor face down and was taking the tv stand off to mount it on my new tv stand, and I forgot to unplug the coax connector and the coax connector broke off. So I took the tv apart to see how easy it was going to be to put the coax connector back on, so I unplugged all the cables on the main board and took the board out. So it's kind of going to be kinda hard, so I decided to just run my coax in to my vcr. So I put the board back in and plugged all the cables in and now the tv just comes on for 5 seconds or so (green light), then it changes to a continual red flashing light. Could it be because the coax connector is broken off? I have tried to unplug/replug all the cables in like 5 times already. I wished I plugged it in after the coax plug broke off and I took it apart :/ ... Any ideas?

Mostly I watch old video tapes and DVD's, but the set will also be connected to my laptop for use as a monitor. I've always had good luck with PANY stuff and saw this set which will fit where I want to put it. Checking reviews I see CNET hates this set, but the reviews on BEST BUY'S site look good. Question, will using a Plasma set as a computer monitor cause burn in? What do you guys think of this set.

I live 5 minutes form Best Buy, Im in the store alot. The staff actually pulled me aside to take a quick look. OMG.... Wow.. This is by far the clearest picture that I have ever seen in person! They were not allowed to put it out for advertisement as Sony plans on Putting up a nice display with colored lights, and raffle tickets, "basically a launch party". I was only able to view the set for about 5 minutes, but holy cow.. Its absolutely stunning. I love the fact that the mini sub woofers are actually on both sides of the display panel itself. Naturally, 4k quality is not out, but the Tv does up-scaling... The blacks are BLACK, vibrant but earth toned colors as well. This Tv is breathtaking.

Samsung F8500

Ok.. Its been about ten days or so since my local Best Buy put it out for display. Its sitting right next to the VT60. Guys... The 8500 has deeper blacks then the VT60. However, I was told that Panasonic has overall better blacks that are consistent throughout the entire panel??? I think he was trying to say that the 8500 has floaters??? Not 100% sure what he meant??? I can say this... By the human eye, the 8500 appears to have deeper blacks then the VT60... I spent about 20 mins really focusing on both displays. There happened to be a Black Eyed Peas video playing on both sets... The 8500 is def blacker then the Vt60. I dont have tech specs. Im only going by the human eye.
Pros on the 8500
1. hats off.. deep rich inky blacks.
2. Very capable of putting out a lot of light.
3. Rich colors, maybe too rich, (pre calibration)
4. Quiet, yes.. I said quiet. I did not hear even the slightest sound of buzzing.
5. Very aesthetically pleasing display and stand.
6. Finally a Plasma that can give Panasonic a run for their money until the ZT comes out.
7. Honestly... I would be pleased with this set, maybe even more so then My vt50??? Store mode is hard to judge.

Panasonic VT60

This goes without saying. Its a beautiful Tv. From the human eye this is my opinion, just an opinion
Pros
1. Beautiful design
2. infamous blacks "Panasonic"
3. Out of the box, nice earth tone colors, not as vibrant as Samsung, which some people prefer.
4. motion control seems to have improved a little bit.
Cons...
The blacks seem to be fading kind of fast compared to the 8500. There could be an entire list of reasons, which Im not going to pretend to have the answers to???

Conclusion...

The Sony 4k is beautiful, especially with a 7 grand or 8 grand price tag. Its truly a thing of pure beauty. 5mins and I was sold!!

The 8500 seemed to have made the most improvements from the series in the past few years. I truly believe this Tv is gonna get some great reviews. The black levels are absolutely amazing.

The VT60
The Vt60 is also a piece of artwork.. Im not too sure what improvements have really been made to this years set other then steps of gradation, and motion control improvements. Im not giving it a bad review (by any sense of the word) Im a little concerned how fast the black levels have dissipated on the VT60... It might just be the mode that its set on.. ??? It has faded rather quickly??

Anyways.. This is just an average Joe's report. Kudos to all 3 manufactures..
Please chime in.. I love learning and reading positive remarks. Please correct any info that I may have left out.
