The current 3' one looks thicker to me than a standard HDMI cable so would I be ok to get a 6' HIGH SPEED HDMI cable to replace it? Or is there something special about it? I don't know much about HDMI cables.

And yet... when I record from my GENIE to my DVD recorder, a message pops up on my TV that tells me that either my cables or my TV are not HD-capable, and that I need to switch to SD.
What am I doing wrong? According to my current understanding, I should be able to record in HD from my GENIE to my DVD recorder, but it is not working.

Since my main HR22 is going out, I talked with a CSR about getting it changed out. She tried to get me to add the protection plan and then it would changed for free. I also asked about lowering my bill since it is getting out of hand, she offered me nothing. I then asked for the retention dept and she said there is no such thing. I said thank you and hung up:mad:

I called back about 1/2hr later and said I was cancelling my service and got delightful young lady. After seeing that I have been a loyal customer since 1998, she offered the following:

Free genie w/free install
$15 off for 1yr on my package
$10 off for 6 months off of HD
$50 credit on next bill
Free Showtime for 3 months
Free Starz for 6 months

Even without the discounts, it will still be lower than what I am paying now. She also mentioned that I should call back when the $10 off/6 months expires and will probably have another discount offer. She said they have these type of offers all the time and are constantly changing.

All in all, very happy customer. I also want to point out that I have never had any issues with customer service until this time

When I ordered a Genie last week I asked for an HR44 and was told "we have no control over which version is delivered to you". I told the rep that I had a new Samsung RVU ready tv mounted near the ceiling in an inaccessible room and wanted it to receive programming through the wireless wi-fi connection as described in their ads. No problem, she took the order.

The installer who came started to disassemble my dish to convert it to SWM when it dawned on him that he had an HR34 which could not do what I was expecting. After many phone calls we discovered that the HR44 is in beta in Denver, parts of California and North Carolina and will not hit general distribution until the Fall. Even then, it will not have wi-fi programming to an RVU tv until much later. It looks like the hype has far outrun the reality.

I spoke with close to a dozen DirectTv people this week and they each had a different take on this issue. The installer and the last two higher level people I spoke with said that this issue comes up multiple times every day and they recommended that I back off and wait for the HR44 to become a real piece that they can deliver with confidence.

I cancelled the order and will wait for them to catch up. I am entitled to one free upgrade every two years so I don't want to waste it on and HR34. In the meantime, I will have to figure out how to get a cable up to the Samsung.

My H21 receiver that I use in the bedroom seems to have bitten the dust. I decided to replace it. I was going to upgrade it to a DVR and called DTV. After talking with them they switched me to a Genie that will be installed tomorrow in my family room with a box that goes in the bedroom to operate the Genie from there. The pitch was that I can record from either TV to a single location and watch what has been recorded from both TV's. So I'm replacing both my receiver and my DVR with the Genie. Hope I made the right choice.

This is my very first post so I hope my question belongs here. I am a very long DTV customer, since 1997, but am looking into getting a home theater. Right now I am looking at a basic entry level Sony AV receiver, Sony STR-DH540. I haven't bought it yet but am reading the online manual to make sure I can figure out if its right for me.

I plan on connecting my Directv HR22 receiver to one of the inputs on the Sony AV receiver by HDMI cable. And then out from the Sony AV receiver to TV input by HDMI. TV is a Sony Bravia.

The question I have is that the online Sony Av Receiver manual says that some equipment connected to it may not be capable of recording. Right now I have my Directv HR 22 connected to my tv and record lots of programs so this would be a real issue if by trying to add a home theater to my tv experience, I eliminated my ability to record. Does anybody know if DTV receiver will still record if connected to the Sony STR-DH540 receiver?

My daughter has an HR24 and an SD receiver. She has been losing the signal on the 24 intermittently, but not on the other. She has called in a number of times and problem not solved. So, I told her the next time it happens to call me and I would come over and call them, which I did last week. The one I spoke to said the problem was caused by the SWIM, which I checked and the light was solid green as it should be. I did get the signal back and he said that they could run diagnostics if we called when the error message was up right when it happens. I told my daughter this and yesterday it happened again so she called them. The ran their diagnostics and couldn't find the problem. When I was there, I checked all of the connections to make sure they were secure, including the SWIM and the dish. The dish is aimed correctly and checking the transponders shows everything is as it should be with very strong signals (all over 90).

As usual, they insist on us paying $48 for a service call or signing up for the protection plan (which I consider on the same level as the protection plans the mafia used to sell). Part of what torques me is that when this was installed I couldn't be there. The installer that came up was clueless and I told me daughter to send him packing and cancel the install. They had DTV call and talked her into going ahead with it. She's had problems from day 1, so to me, this is just a continuation of a bad install or bad equipment.

I'm wondering if any of you have had this exact problem and what you found to be the cause.

Recently, my parents finally upgraded to HD. Since the upgrade, the sound is out of sync with nearly all channels. It doesn't matter if they are local channels or not. I seem to can't figure out how to sync it up. The sound is after the lips move, sometimes up to 3/4 of a second.

I've searched around and of course, there are hundreds of posts about this. I've paused, rewound, etc but it doesn't fix it. I've tried to find some sort of sync settings on all the hardware, but come up empty handed. Here is their setup.:

DirecTV HD DVR (not sure on the model, they just had it installed).
Sony DAV-HDX272 surround sound
Insignia NS-42L550A11 (42")
HDMI cable from DVR to TV
Digital Optical cable from DVR to surround sound

They say if they use the sound only form the TV, sync issue is fine. I didn't try this, but is something they said. It's when they go through the surround sound.

I've even tried the component cable from DVR to TV just to see if there was a difference...nope.

They have a BluRay player, in which the sound is connected to the surround sound using a digital coaxial cable.

Anyone else have a similar issue...either with the same surround sound unit my folks have? Is there a way to tweak this?

I really appreciate your help in advance.
