I'm very new to this so please be gentle. :)

I have a site where I breakdown college football games and analyze them. To do this, I have game film software that I plug video files of broadcast games into.

Obviously, I need to be able to record HD broadcast games from cable (COX) into a common video format (compressed, obviously, these are 4 hour long games).

What is the best way I should do this? I could get a DVR, but from what I've heard online it's tricky and unreliable to get HD recordings from the DVR onto PC? I've also heard of the SD homerun Prime, but I'd have to get an M-card from the cable company and I'm assuming I wouldn't be able to watch cable on my TV.

I don't watch TV on my PC, only on my TV.

Could I just get their DVR for normal use, but somehow plug it into my PC instead of the TV just to record the games?

What would you suggest?
