Hello HighDefForum! I'm brand new to the high def scene, and I have a little problem with my current setup. Not sure if you guys have any suggestions, but I'll post my question.

I recently bought a 46" Sony LCD. The apartment I moved into has a very limited space for my TV... actually only one spot. There's a built-in shelf/entertainment center thing in the apt. that houses the only cable hookup in the entire living room. Problem is, there's a gas fireplace directly below the space for the tv (I don't plan to ever use the gas f.p. while the tv is there) which puts the tv at too high of a height for viewing. Using a tiltable wall mount isn't really an option... the built-in is about 14-16 inches deep... so I think if I put a wall mount in the back, the TV would get lost in there... I have pondered making some sort of wedge to put under the base of the TV to angle it down, but that makes me a bit nervous that my brand new set will tip over easier... Does anyone have any outside-the-box suggestions on how to fix this? Or am I just out of luck?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Also, if a picture of the setup would help, I can try to post one.

Ok, so I am finally ordering my tv this week. :yippee:
It's a 50" Panasonic G10 plasma.

I would like to wall mount it, but possibly keep my current tv stand until we find a decent wood stand that can be closed to keep the kiddos out. We have a 2 and 3 year old. This is one reason why I want to mount the screen on the wall.
The new plasma is replacing a 35" mitsubishi crt that comes out pretty far from the wall.

Ideally, I would like to have an electrician come and install an outlet behind the new tv, and perhaps run the cables in the wall. If I don't have the electrician, I would just get one of those plastic channel pieces to hide the wires.
Eventually I'd like the outlet, but I don't want my wife to regret the tv purchase from all the little expenses on top of getting the tv. (it's been 5 years, and she finally agreed to it after we got a camper, that she's wanted for a few years). I know that things need to be prepared the right way, I just want a efficient way to do it.

One of my questions is that if I get a UPS surge protector, how do I use that if I have my ac outlet behind the tv. Am I missing something? I may not be able to afford the extra $200 or so for the UPS right now. I have a good Belkin surge protector right now.

I don't know about what the height of the tv should be at, since I have read about if you put it too high, you risk getting neck strain. I'd like to get the mount (pretty much decided on a tilting one) from monoprice.com and know not to spend money on Monster Hdmi cables :)

I have the following:

*Dish network (getting the HD 622 DVR installed November 24th)

*Xbox 360 (hdmi ouput)

*Nintendo Wii (it might go downstairs for more room to use it, but the new tv may help with that)

*home theater receiver but just used for stereo right now (on 2 speakers connected right now, but I of course want home theater in the next year or so). I have a pair of Bose 301's from 6 years ago. I would probably get a new receiver and speakers and put the old stereo and bose downstairs.

*dvd player (it will be upgraded to a Blu Ray though soon)

I don't want to spend much at this point since I am exhausting alot of my funds on the tv while my wife is agreeing to it ...lol

Anyway, I am going to add some pics of my room the way it is now to give an idea of whether I will need a swiveling mount or not, and perhaps get advice on what else I should do. I am a person that wants to get it right the first time, so I try to find any potential issues beforehand.

edit: if you see the vcr, keep in mind that it is only a temporary thing, since my wife had some old kids learning videos on vhs that I am going to put onto dvd.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hello,

I am planning to have my 52" Sony LCD wall mounted. The area I am planning to mount it on is above the fireplace. I did a rough check with a stud finder and found studs around 14" (?? is that a standard spec?) apart.

I am mainly looking for the swivel movement (not particular about tilt) but all swivel models seem to come with the Tilt. I was also planning to call an economical installer for this task.

I was considering the following mount from Monoprice since it seems to be specd for a large sized TV (up to 60") and I dont want to take a chance by going for one of those moutns spec'd exactly for a 52"

Item ID 3725 (not allowed to post URL)

The spec for the above model says it has solid Aluminium arms. There is a similar model (previous to this one - 3724) with hollow steel arms. I felt that this one (3725 that i selected) would be stronger.

1) I would appreciate any comments on the stability and durabilty of this mount (ID 3725) and also any comparisions to the mount with hollow steel arms (ID 372). Is there usually some sag expected with these mounts? Does swivel motion degrade performance over time?

2) Are there any other measurements (apart from the 14" stud spacing) that I should take and be prepared with before calling an installer?

3) I was considering having the cables installed "in-wall" and wanted some opinion from the users and experts here on the advantages/disadvantages of doing in-wall wiring versus just running the cables outside and shielding the same? The cabinet with the cable box, Blue-ray/home theater box/Wii console will be located below the TV to the right of the fireplace and the TV itself will be around 3-4 ft from the floor (cables along right border of fireplace).

I would appreciate any advise on the above.

I recently ordered a mount for my kids new 32" Samsung. I got jacked for an expensive mout on my main plasma. So I decided to try a cheap monoprice mount for this new tv. The mount was $21 and I also ordered a 10 ft power cable for the tv (only $1.90) because I knew it the tv was going to be high up the wall. My kids have bunk beds and both like to be up top mainly. I also wanted a decent view from the bottom bunk, and from chairs/ beanbags. So the stuff arrived, and I broke out the stud finder and marked the wall. After I got the mount on the wall I checked it with a level before bolting it down with my rathchet. I drilled a nice 2" round hole in the mount's provided area with a hole saw for cabling. I then ran an HDMI for PS3, a coax, ac cable, and componet cables, just because I had an extra set. Then I called a buddy over to help me lift the tv. Its only a 32 but safety first! After I got the tv up there I made the final adjustments (left to right) and secured it. I really like the mechanism that locks the tv onto the mount. I prefer the omnimount latches that you can get some small padlocks to fit in for security. However this one is a pain in the A@# to get at the inside screws if you wanted to remove the tv. I think any thief would not take the time to figure it out with the alarm blaring! So I powered up and sucess. I am still trying to find a nice final cosmetic solution for the gear attached to the tv. But at least I am happy with the tv view and no visable wiring. See pic.

Can someone lead me in the right direction?

Is 200 x 400 the same as 400 x 200?
Thanks!
