The BD-370 is connected to a Yamaha RX-V465 via and HDI cable and I've selected #3 from the choices above.

I have similar choices for SPDIF, whatever that is, and again I've selected DTS-Re_encode.

I'm thinking Primary-Pass thru would be a beter choice. What say you?

TIA,
Any of you have thoughts on the BD370 vs. the Panny BD60. I bought the Panny (BD605) from Costco today. When I got home, my buddy alerted me to the LG deal. Since I have a lot of money in a gift card from best buy on the return of my PS3, I am wondering your opinions on these 2 players. Which would you choose? The Panny cost me $160 but has Costco's unlimited return should I run into a problem.

I guess I can just do this but was wondering if there is a setting to fix this? I would have thought the BR player would have been the same level since they are both panasonic? Will Digital Compression "on" help?

Well my PS3 stopped recognizing Blu Ray discs. This is a problem since I only use it a BD player and have never played a game on it. Anyway, thanks to my Replacement Plan from BB, I know have $427 in a BB gift card. With player prices being cheaper on Amazon, etc. I think I may just buy the player elsewhere and use the $427 at BB on other items.

Anyway, I don't know what to get. I am a little leary about another PS3 since mine crapped out. Also, I don't like that you can't send the audio to the reciever to let it decode DTS HD, etc. Pet Peave, I know, but still. My reciever is the the Onkyo 605. I have a 360, so I don't "have" to have Neftflix streaming. I was looking at the BD60, but some people have had issues with that and the Onkyo, however, my sister has the same reciever and bought the Costco equivelant and it works fine. I may even consider buying that from costco as well. $20 more than the current Amazon price, but I don't think it falls under the 90 Costco return policy should something go wrong.

Any thoughts? I would like to keep it under or around $200 as then maybe I put the rest into a small HDTV for the bedroom.

When setting up BD80 and before watching movies I connected to network and updated firmware. Player came loaded with 1.5 and latest is 2.1. The process appeared to run smoothly, but I left the room for a few moments before it was finished, and when I returned the display was in "bluray" screen saver mode and the unit displayed something like "No Disc." I left it alone for a few more moments but it appeared that it was finished. I never saw the screen message "The Firmware Was Updated" as the owner's manual said I should. I later re-checked for updates through the set-up menu and it said none needed. How can I ensure this was done correctly? The first movie I watched - new Pixar release "Up," froze for 5 seconds at around the 30-45 minute mark into the movie, then "un-froze" itself and kept playing.

I later followed Panasonic Support instructions to confirm firmware update is "2.1" but am left puzzled as to why I never saw the screen "The Firmware Was Updated." I wonder if that screen shows for just a minute or so then switches to screen-saver mode. Leaves the user wondering whether the update worked correctly or not.

Can anyone confirm if the screen saver goes into effect automatically after a firmware update?

Hey, so a "new" version of the movie cars came out today. Maybe it's the same blu ray disc, but the package has both Blu Ray and DVD (plus two collectible cars). I was playing the Blu version on the PS3 and it froze at 26:00. I stopped the player, shut it off and then it gave me an error code that the disc was not recognizable. I put the DVD copy in and it played fine so far (I am up to 50 mins). I put the Blu Ray back in and got to the main menu, but it froze when I hit play.

Any thoughts? Anyone have this problem with the original Blu Ray version of Cars? I guess I will have to try the 3.0/3.01 updates to the PS3, but I was avoiding it due to Blu Ray issues. I only use my PS3 for movies. Though if this is an issue, the Panny BD30 is looking like a good option at ~ $130 or whatever they are now.

This is what I bought:

The Oppo Digital BDP-83 has been an amazing value and performer for a Blu-ray player in it's price range since day one, it equaled the ultra high-end Denon players in the video section not to mention faster load times! Now Oppo Digital is trying to change all that by offering the Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition, the rare thing is Oppo is offering it as an upgrade to people that bought the standard player (BDP-83), that's unheard of in home electronics! I don't know about you but I'm very impressed with Oppo Digital as a company, boy am I glad I went with one of their Blu-ray players! I can't imagine my Blu-ray movies sounding any better than they already do, I wonder how these new DACs compare with most high end AV receivers? This isn't just about higher quality DACs, it's about optimized analog signal paths.

Here's the link for those that purchased the standard BDP-83 that wish to upgrade ($299) their Oppo player.
http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-b...adeOption.aspx

Standard OPPO BDP-83 ($499) For the average consumer that plans on only using the digital outputs on the player. Has lower quality analog output performance compared to some high-end Blu-ray players costing around $4,500.
http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-b...omparison.aspx

OPPO BDP-83 Special Edition ($899) Includes RS-232 interface, better quality power supply and DAC's for improved analog audio performance when using the analog 7.1 multi-channel outputs and the dedicated 2 channel analog outputs.
http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-b...omparison.aspx

(Flagship) OPPO BDP-83SE Nu Force Edition ($1295) Includes RS-232 interface, Critical analog components are replaced to make even greater audio improvements over the OPPO BDP-83 Special Edition player in the area of analog output connections.
http://www.nuforce.com/hi/products/o...3se/index.php#
Extracting high-quality audio from Blu-ray players is problematic. The HDMI signal interleaves video and audio data which, upon decoding, produces an inherent jitter as high as 7nanoseconds (For comparison, a good CD player’s jitter is in the picosecond range). In practical terms, it is difficult to properly decode HDMI audio without employing extensive reclocking circuits, thus pushing up the cost of a good HDMI audio pre-processor.

The simplest way to improve analog audio performance is at the source. The Oppo BDP-83SE player incorporates ESS Technology’s state-of-the-art Sabre DAC, widely acknowledged as one of the industry’s best. The 7.1 multi-channel unit employs a single 8-channel Sabre DAC. The stereo channels’ dedicated Sabre DAC is achieved by stacking four DACs per left and right channel for utmost transparency and dynamic range.

The Nuforce Edition elevates performance yet further by replacing critical analog components with the high-grade equivalents NuForce uses in its high-end audio components. The result is a better power supply and optimized analog signal paths. As always, the proof is in the listening. The improvements in stereo (CD, SACD, DVD-A, BD Audio), and L/R/C movie outputs are clearly audible.

The standard Oppo BDP-83SE offers exemplary audio performance. The Nuforce Edition goes a step further in transparency, dynamics, and detail retrieval. As is typical of all Nuforce products, these benefits relate directly to our high-end product line in the preservation of musical truth.

I just ordered through Panasonic website a DMP-BD60K and am now wondering if I should have ordered the 80K. Got the 60K @ special price of $114+tax NEW (corporate discount plus rebate). The 80K was offered at $169+tax so seems like a good deal. My home theater audio system is: Marantz SR7400 which does not support HDMI. I have Sony 46" LCD rear projection with one HDMI that I use exclusively with upconverting Sony DVP-NS90V, and I use components for cable through TiVo. I also occasionally use 2 channel analog audio out on Sony to drive auxiliary speakers in another room through Marantz and it looks like the 80K for analog audio out only has the 7.1, no 2 channel. That's why I chose the 60 over the 80.

If I understand things correctly - given my audio set-up I can't take full advantage of HD audio from Pana players because I'm not using HDMI except for video as Marantz doesn't support. Am I missing anything - is there any other reason I should have considered the 80K? I have 5.1 analog audio output on Sony but frankly never used it.

The only downside I could find with 60K is that it only has a digital audio OPTICAL output, and I'm out of OPTICAL inputs on the Marantz so will have to give up something else. I thought I read somewhere some other special considerations for the 80K on the audio side, something about some settings causing a loss of low level/subwoofer sound.

Sorry for the rambling and probably confusing note. I guess I'm just having a little buyers remorse wondering if I should have ordered the 80K instead. The $114 for the 60K seems a real bargain, plus it looks like it will hook-up identically to how I have been using my Sony DVD player.

Any counsel?

I have the Samsung 1600 (i think) and I'm pretty convinced that my issue resulted from a firmware update since i first witnessed it then and changed nothing. My display appears to be in "zoom" mode, its not the tv settings, doesnt matter which setting i use (game, thx, etc). The menus are actually going off the screen quite a bit, I wasn't hoping today's firmware update would've fixed it but it didn't so I thought maybe there is a setting off. There aren't many settings though, its on 1080p, 16:9..any idea?
