Hi Folks,
New guy here… I stumbled onto this board while looking for some specific information on computer video cards with HDMI output.

My primary question is does the HDMI output of any of the video cards available have the digital sound source integrated into it as does all my other audio video equipment?

All the equipment in my system is now set up to work that way. I have gone this route because it greatly simplifies the hook up and amount of cables. Also all my switching capability is HDMI based.

I am currently putting together a basic PC in a rack mount case that is going to be in my A/V equipment rack. It will have a terabyte hard drive in it. It’s purpose will be to provide storage and playback of video and audio from the hard drive as well as provide a link for bit streaming video and audio from the internet such as Netflix provides. I currently have over 400 audio CD’s I have put on hard drive so I will be able to eliminate the monster Kenwood 400 slot DVD/CD/MP3 deck and make room for the rack mount computer case.

In order to make my intended plan work I need the fully integrated audio and video present in the HDMI output from the computer just as it is from the rest of my equipment sources.

If anyone here has information and advice regarding my inquiry here, I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
I think it's about time that I dump my 4:3 NEC 19" gaming LCD with OptiClear (shiny screen) and go for something a little bigger! I have been looking at HP's 2159m 21.5" inch 1920x1080 3ms response time LCD, but not sure if I'm going to be able to see text at such a high resolution crammed into 21.5" inches of space. I am open to other brands (sizes uoto 24") of LCDs that must have a glossy screen. I can't go back to the matt finish LCDs! I appreciate your reply, Techlord!

My question is can I connect a Directv HD box directly to this monitor using some type of DVI adapter? Maybe an HDMI to DVI adapter? To get a picture from my D*tv HD receiver?

It sounds to me like a stupid question. But I won't know if I don't ask. I'm thinking it needs a tuner, but doesn't the HD sat box serve as a tuner?

Thanks ahead for any comments. :hithere:

Introducing the just released Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Wireless iPod/Computer Speakers. I haven't seen a review on these yet. However, about three weeks ago I purchased the regular 2.1 THX Certified speakers and they rock. I think both edditions of these speakers are better than the Logitech Z-2300 for one big reason: Versatility. They are both THX Lucas certified. They both sound wonderful and the subwoofers for both the Z-2300's and Klipsch Pro Media are full of solid base and sound. There's just one big problem. You can not hook up the Z-2300 to your television and use the sub as a dedicated subwoofer. Youn can even purchase stands from Wal-Mart for $39.99-$59.99 for the above the head surround experience we all love as if we were in the movie theatre. On the other hand I have already hooked up the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1's to my Toshiba 51H83 Rear Projection CRT and they rock as front or rear channels. Klipsch is known to make solid sound systems and they didn't stop here with next generation of wireless speakers. In fact, I would bet that they will release of 5.1 system as they did before. If they do release a wireless 5.1 THX Certified system you might have to wonder if the Klipsch line of 5.1 computer speakers would be better than Logitech Z-5500 5.1 THX Certified surround sound system or even some of the best computer speakers ever made. I know M-Audio would say something about that, but remember the M-Audio line of desktop 2.0 speakers are more so for music enthusitasts and for editing music in the studio. Overall, for the functionality consumers will love it for another big reason. It can hook up to your Ipod. Man, these speakers are fantastic.

Note: At this time, the only retail stores that carry them are Best Buy. Some stores are even sold out from my recent search. Happy holidays everyone. Peace....

Guys,
I just put together a computer that is going to serve primarily as a data repository and secondly an HTPC used mainly for browsing and PC gaming. It's running XP SP3.

It's an older Asus p4p8x that I've had but it runs games pretty well so performancewise it works just fine. It has an onboard ADI AD1985 6-channel codec with configurable analog outputs which can be set up to output 5.1 sound. It also has a s/pdif port which I want to use. SoundMAX 4 XL is the included software package to drive the whole thing. My Pioneer vsx-816 K receiver has the ability to decode multiple digital streams which it does for my ps3 via optical.

I'm able to get 2 channel digital out of the SPDIF port but not 5.1. The receiver shows digital so at least the connection is correct.
The SoundMAX package has a setup screen which allows you to put sound to all five channels but only two actually generate sound.
"Some guy" said that with the p4p8x the only way get 5.1 out of SPDIF is with a CD/DVD/Movie Player, you can't get it from a game. The only way to get game 5.1 is via the analog outputs. This is not a desireable option however since you lose microphone input.
I haven't been able to find any other info about it.

Does anyone have any experience with this or have any experience setting this up? Should I try something like AC3filter or Spdifier, I'm thinking it can't hurt?

Thanks

My HP mediacenter laptop with XP is connected to a Panny G10, and a MS wireless kb/mouse setup.

If I switch the Panny to the PC input, and fire up the laptop, all is well...but if I switch back to HDMI input for a bit of tv viewing, and then BACK to the PC input, wireless mouse and kb are non-responsive (the kb and touch pad on laptop are ok). It does not seem to matter if the laptop screensaver has kicked in or not. So far, I have not been able to re-activate the wireless kb/mouse without re-booting the laptop.

A different HP laptop with Vista, using the same wireless kb/mouse did not have this issue.

Any ideas on how to solve for this laptop?

Mahalo!

I workout, and it annoyed the hell out of me when the earphone jack was loose. CL would take it back under warranty, but there was no guarantee that you would get back the same player that you sent in.

I purchased a Sandisk 8gb Fuse, and I'm very happy with it. It's so much easier than the Zen Touch, the software for the Zen was horrible to deal with. The Fuze is drag, and drop. It also lets you use a micro sd card, so I don't need a huge HD. I can put my Youtube vidz on this player, and it rawks.

I talked to Rbinck, he's going to see about adding a MP3 player section to the cell phone forum, since so many cells are MP3 players too.

I also bought a device to use in my car, it lets me hear my player through my speakers, via fm radio. It was 17.00 bucks
I was told that I could not use the HDMI connected to the PC input on the HDTV? I know the DVI is Digital and the VGA is analog. I there a better way to connect them? I looked for a firmware update for my Samsung but couldn't find one, hoping they had one that would let me use a DVI to HDMI from my Gateway. I normally watch movies with VLC player but am thinking about subscribing to a university sports web site to watch basketball games online and would only do that if I could watch it on my HDTV and have it look good. Thanks

Hey all,
I recently purchased a used Dell Optiplex gx240 (pentium 4 1.5 ghz from a friend for next to nothing in hopes of using it to stream mostly sports content on my Samsung 46" 1080p tv. I originally had it plugged in through the VGA cables but the computer wouldn't smoothly stream internet content. Not even You tube. So I went and purchased a Sapphire Radeon x1650 pro 512 mb AGP. and hooked it up using dvi-hdmi. It still isn't capable of streaming internet video. Is this my computer or the card or what? I can still exchange the card within 7 days. and would be willing to spend a little more on another card as long as it works. any suggestions?

When I installed my home LAN system, I used a Linksys Wireless Router with 4 wired ports (3 ports remaining after main computer connected)... Each of the remaining 3 ports is wired directly to an CAT 5 outlet somewhere in the house/shop and is in use by either another PC or a Directv Receiver. NOW the problem.. In my living room where the DTV receiver is connected to the wired LAN, I need another LAN access point (connection). I have no more access ports on the router to run a cable from. Is there anyway to connect something to the wall connection in the living to get 2 ports out of the one connection? Maybe the only way to go on this one is a wireless access point! Help or ideas...
