I looked at the manual switches but they didn't seem too reliable. I'd rather not buy an electrical one either. I ended up buying a female-female coupler and was wondering how much it may affect the audio signal. I'm going to leave one wire in my receiver and switch between my devices as necessary. I guess I'll find out when I receive it but I'd like to know what other's opinions are on it. I'm not a big audiophile, I'd just like to get 5.1 digital out of each device.

Any power cables that are recommended for such an installation?

Hi there~

I was wondering if anyone can help me with my home theater project.

Is there any signal loss and/or degradation when using a coupler to connect two coax cables? It's my 'cable in' line and the coupler is female/female. The cables being connected are the standard (RG6, I believe?) coax, with the terminal ends being male.

I plan to run high def cable service (only selected channels, of course) and I have Time Warner digital cable. I have a plasma TV which will be connected to the cable box with an HDMI cable.

Any insight or advice is appreciated.

This past weekend I purchased a new Samsung 40" LCD, but when I went to connect it to my cable box via HDMI, the TV would not recognize the connection (the HDMI options remain grayed out in the source menu and only TV and PC are available). I am able to watch TV through the coaxial cable, but not in HD.

I have an 8300HD Scientific Atlanta cable box, but I have TW NYC, so I do not have access to the HD setup wizard. The cable box says that it is broadcasting in 1080i and the HDTV light comes on when I go to an HD channel.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the TV to recognize the connection? I have tried using all of the different HDMI ports on the TV as well as powering things off and on in different sequences -- but to no avail.

I would sincerely appreciate any guidance you can provide. I have contacted TW, but could not get an appointment until the weekend, so I want to see if I can find a fix before then.

Thanks!

What are your guys thoughts on spliting the signal that many times on that long of a run and do you think one signal amp could do it, if so any recommandation of which kind?
It's my understanding that the 1080p can not be transmitted via coaxial cable. If that is so, then how does the 1080p signal get from the dish or cable company to your HD box when it is traveling through coaxial? Is it that the 1080p can be transmitted over coaxial as long as it is a certain type like RG-6? Am I missing something here? If there is already an explanation somewhere, could someone give me a link to it? Thanks for the help.

hello...i just got a panny 50g10 and am looking for HDMI cables. from what i have read very cheap cables are just as good as expensive name brand ones...correct? i am looking for one for the ps3 and i guess for the cable box when it arrives. 1.4 is the newest version right? these units will be very close to right under the tv so you think i should go with 3 feet or so? what is the standard length? do you only need HDMI for 1080p or 720p HD as well? are there special ones that are better to use for 1080p/plasma/ps3 etc?

i am looking for some cheap high quality HDMI cables that i can get fast...any suggestions? can i just get some random ones off ebay or would that not be advisable? do they sell cheap ones in stores like walmart etc...?

Hello all,

I think I have figured out most of the cabling that will go between my new 52" LCD tv, HTIB and Wii.

I am planning to get the cables between the tv (wall mounted) and the other equipment installed "in-wall" and a question popped up.
I currently have standard sat tv service from DirecTV...which I will definitely upgrade to HD programming. My question was, does the RG-6 type cable that connects the cable box tot the TV change when I, for example
1) upgrade to receive DirecTV HDTV or
2) change service providers (DirecTV to Dish or maybe even cable like TWC).

I will appreciate any inputs on the above since this cable will go inside wall and I want to be prepared in case the cable type will change!

Thanks in advance

Hello all,

I was trying to determine the type and Qty of cables to obtain to hook up my Sony KDL52XBR9 52" LCD TV, Sony BDV-E300 HTIB (Sony Blue-Ray Disk Player and 5.1 surround system) and a Wii Console.

Per my understanding I will require
1) one HDMI cable to connect the TV to a (DirecTV) cable box,
2) one HDMI cable to connect TV to the HTIB base unit (blue ray player).
3)could possibly use a HD Component cable to hook up the Wii console to the HDTV.
My questions are -
1) Are there any other special cables I need to purchase?
2) Regarding HDMI cables, is it sufficient if I get the "1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG)" cable? I am doing a wall mount installation and possibly in-wall cabling. Are there any other specs I need to look out for?

3) The TV sales guy told me about an "optic fiber cable" to connect the blue-ray player to the TV. Is this cable required if I am connecting the HDMI cable? Is it usually used instead of HDMI? which of the two is better with the 5.1 Channel surround system.

I would appreciate any inputs to clarify my doubts above.

Just got the Denon AVR 1910. I have some experience setting up audio equipment. But, I'm not an experienced tech enthusiast. I had a friend who installs home theater systems with his cousin's company help me set up the speakers and connect them to the receiver. We don't have anything up and running yet. I got tired and ran out of time.

However, he mentioned a few things that didn't sound right to me. He claims he's heard this at professional trade shows and from Denon reps. Also, this has played out through his experience setting up expensive home theater systems (upwards of 40 grand plus) Basically, he told me to use HDMI cables solely for the video output but to use Digital Coaxial or Digital Optical (in that order) for the audio signal. He said he has run into numerous problems regarding HDMI signals and usually ends up running video through component cables anyway. But, for audio the problems are more consistent or rather there is a loss in quality when running audio through HDMI.

But, I had two problems with this statement. First, my understanding is that that the new HD audio codecs only run through HDMI. In other words, I thought you could not get True HD or DTS HD audio if your ran through digital coaxial or optical. Second, I just want to deal with less cables, inputs, and setup hassles.

So, can anyone with knowledge explain this to me? Which is the best setup for sound? Can I get Tru-HD and DTS HD through a coaxial cable?

Oh, and one last thing. What frequency setting should I have my subwoofer at? In other words, at what HZ should I set it at?

Thanks
I would like to hook up one of my pc's to my LE40B550 but I am not sure about what cables i actually need.

I have an HD4870 1Gb with 2 DVI ports, and i was thinking of buyin a DVI-D to HDMI-M cable, but I read somewhere that DVI cables do not transmit sound (not sure if thats the case nowadays because the post where I read that were old).
So basically, if DVI's do not transmit sound, I would also need a 3.5mm cable that would connect my sound card to the tv's audio hole ? That simple?

Last but not least, I should mention that this PC is not close to the TV, so i would need 30ft long cables at least.

Thanks
