I have a 3 year old Mitsubishi DLP, and for the last couple of months the screen has been getting these lines across it... see the picture attached. For the first year or two, it got quite a bit of use, but lately I haven't watched it much. Now with these lines I can't even turn it on because it looks bad.

The picture is taken while an HD channel was playing. I use HDMI with AT&T U-Verse. I get this with my XBOX using component cable connection also. I don't think I see this when the TV menus are up.

The TV is the one with the hard drive built in, I need to play back some old over the air tv I recorded when I first got it to see if the lines are on that when played back.

Any ideas what this is caused by?

I have replaced 3 bulbs in 3 years. My most recent one lasted about 10 months. It conveniently had a 6 month warranty that didn't help me out. How much difference does it make if I purchase the Toshiba manufactured bulbs or the aftermarket equivelant? Up until now I have purchased the Toshiba y67lmp bulb that is suggested. Should I try one of the non-Toshiba brands?

Also, does the bulb's life depend on what type of activities you mainly use the television for? I don't watch that much tv but use it mostly for gaming and movies.

Thanks in advance.

It's a problem which seems to be restricted to a bad run of dmd boards in specific models of Sammy's DLPs. If you are experiencing the "white dot" syndrome, see the link for an extended warranty repair by Samsung. As noted in at the link, it's just for WHITE DOTS, no other issue is being covered.

The TV was above a fish tank so humidity may have played a role in the problem. It displays video in an extra green hue (may just be the settings but I haven't figured out how to fix it after messing with the contrast etc.). The MAIN problem however is that it has a blue hue around the edges with only an oval in the center where it is clear and also around the edges it displays sharp blue dots scattered around the screen.

Any Ideas?

Im a college student who doesn't have a lot of money to sink into this but since I got it for free I am willing to take a risk tinkering with it to get it fixed.

Ok I posted on here a while back but here's the run down. I can turn it on and it works fine for maybe and hour and then the picture cuts out but i still have sound. I'll turn it off and let it power down completely and turn it right back on and the picture will come on for anywhere from 30 sec to a few hrs. I had replaced the lamp, because it exploded in the tv, and the ballest. Neither has worked. I'm about to the point of saying screw it and just buying a new tv if it can't be fixed fairly cheap. I've bee told it could be the dmd board or the light generator, both of witch I was advised to just buy a new tv.

Any Imputs?

My Sony LCD wich was a $3500 TV new is finally dying after only 4.5 years :crying: :crying: :crying:
It looked like a kid had taken a blue crayon to the screen once last night & it has been turning a little bluer for 6 months now.
I had the Optical Block replaced under warranty 2 years ago & it was actually a new one from Sony & the guy said I might get lucky as Sony may have updated the new Optical Block, but no after 2 years this block has had it's day.
I am definitely calling Sony to let them know I think it is bull that I paid $2800(how much i actually paid) for a 4 year TV as that makes me sick to think about it.

I love Sony stuff but no more on TV's as i ordered a LG 55LH40 LCD last nite. It may not be a big expensive "name brand", but it is what I can afford right now & i thank the Lord for being able to get another one. I am still so sad over my Sony though.
I made the purchase cause it costs a fortune from what I can tall to replace that Optical Block out of pocket & I can't afford that every 2 years.

Good Luck to you guys with these big Sony's as I hope yours lasts many years longer than mine.

I have a 61 inch Samsung DLP that is about 2 1/2 years old (HLR6167WAX/XAA). This summer we replaced the lamp and the color wheel (turns out only the color wheel was broken (totally shattered) but the husband thought it was the lamp so we replaced that first and just left the new one in).

Since we replaced those it has been working well, except it has occasionally (maybe 3 times) restarted while watching something (always during the day so I was thinking it might be a heat issue).

Yesterday, however, it turned off and won't turn back on. None of the lights in the front are lit, and there's no response to pushing the power button. (We'd stepped out of the room when it shut off, so no one saw what happened).

We also have a Samsung home theater system for the audio, and after the TV shut off the sound kept going, but it would intermittently cut out; this also happened after I switched the audio to other options (like the FM radio). But it wasn't turning off, just that the sound would cut out for a bit (like 10-15 seconds).

Because of the issue with the sound I thought it might be an issue with the surge protector or the outlet. I left everything unplugged over night, and then plugged things back in this morning. Unfortunately, the TV still won't power on, but the audio seems to be working fine.

I've tried plugging the TV directly into the outlet, and into another outlet, but still haven't had any success. It is like it isn't getting any power.

Anyone have any advice or help on how to diagnose/fix the problem?

Hello everyone! I have a quick question and hopefully someone will be able to help me.

I have a 42 inch Samsung DLP (HLS4266WX/xaa) and every time I use something that is connected via HDMI cable it screws up my television. Here is the situation...

I have both a PS3 and an Xbox 360. My PS3 has always been connected via HDMI cable but recently I found an extra one laying around so I decided to hook my Xbox 360 up with it.

Lets say I am watching channel 4 on regular tv and then I decided that I wanted to play Xbox, I turn on my xbox (hooked up via HDMI mind you) and play. When I turn OFF my xbox....and it goes back to channel four....channel 4 is screwed up! You can still see the picture, but it looks as if certain parts of the screen are lagging and it's blotchy. The picture just screws up....almost like having Directv and there is bad weather out.

Well...I decided to get rid of the HDMI cable and hook ed the xbox back up using the componet cables. Well...Saturday, my wife and I decided to watch a movie in the PS3. I have NEVER had a problem with the PS3 hooked up with HDMI. Well....after the movie, the tv is now in REALLY bad shape. The picture on regular tv is really screwed up! I feel almost like the HDMI is frying the tv.

Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions? Is there anyway to "reset" a DLP TV?

Thanks.

a bit more info:
last owner DID attempt to replace them, as well.
NOT as skilled with the soldering iron as I- to say the least.
I cleaned all the pads off- but a few areas he had burned off some of the pads...there was still SOME area to solder to- but not a lot.

It doesn't appear to have any contacts bridged. all the 2.2ohm 2watt resistors are replaced and reading properly.

went around and checked all the other resistors and pico fuses on the board and they all appear to be reading what's expected. (one does have a bit of ceramic chipped off- but still reads ok). there is an 8.2Mohm resistor (at R832) next to the 110 AC clip that I can't get a reading on...my meter only has 200,2000,20k,200k,2000k and no setting gets me a reading.

Also, there is a 2 prong clip at D31 that has no leads going to it, It only strikes me as odd because it is the only one on the board with nothing going to it.

when I turn it on- all three guns start heating up- I can see them start to glow at the base- then it cuts off and gives the 3 blink. (led is RED....is it always red?)

Hi - I'm new to this forum, so please pardon any breach of the forum protocols. I was browsing the archives of this forum and back in 2004 there was a question raised about obtaining 5.1 sound from the Digital Audio Output of a Mits TV when the source was provided via an HDMI input. The general issue seemed to be that the TV would not provide 5.1 sound from the Digital Audio Output when the source was an HDMI input. I recently found myself in exactly this situation. I have a Mits WD-72833 which has 3 HDMI inputs on the back panel. I have the Digital Audio Output of the TV connected via coax to a coax digital input on my A/V receiver. If the TV source is Ant 1 or Ant 2 from a cable connection and the TV is tuned to a digital channel, the receiver displays that it is receiving Dolby DIgital 5.1 sound and the speakers are driven appropriately. However, if the source is one of the 3 HDMI inputs, the receiver displays that the sound is stereo and only the front 2 speakers provide sound. This indicates that the posts back in 2004 were correct and that the TV will not provide 5.1 sound when driven from a HDMI input. It also indicates that the TV is capable of providing 5.1 sound from non-HDMI sources. So far I have gotten around this issue by separate connections from each HDMI device to the receiver, but I was wondering if there is a way to have the TV provide 5.1 sound over the Digital Audio Output from the HDMI devices rather than the individual connections. BTW I have talked to Mitsubishi customer support. They promised to look into it and get back to me with an answer, but so far I have not heard anything.

Thanks,

Hi all,
I recently picked up a kp-57ws500 TV someone was throwing away, it had convergence issues and was supposed to be an easy fix. I replaced the convergence IC's, and the TV worked like a charm... for a while.
Soon, I started to hear HV arcing coming from inside the unit. I couldn't find the source of the problem, and it didn't seem to be damaging the TV, so I let it continue for a while.
Eventually, the arcing started to happen frequently enough for me to pinpoint the problem. It turns out I hadn't resealed the anode cup on the tubes properly, and it was arcing to the chassis. I resealed the cup with a very generous amount of caulk, and the TV again worked like a charm... for a while.

After about a month of the TV working perfectly, I turned on the TV and heard a snap, like the HV arcs from before. This time though, the TV went dead. Now if I go to turn it on, I get a 6-blink error, which the service manual says means "low B OCP/OVP (overcurrent/overvoltage)". It suggests that the +5v line on the A or B board is shorted or overloaded.
Anyone have any suggestions on where I should go from here, or am I S.O.L. on this one?
