My friend owns a kuro and it looks good but when im looking at that and my other friends samsung 40 inch LCD I dont notice a real big difference. Can anybody tell what im really gaining if I were to save up for a higher end plasma

2) I am not very familiar with the calibration process...do we have to calibrate the TV for optimal performance with HD programming and SD programming separately?

3)Today is my first day watching my new HDTV and while the SD programming (DirecTV) largely looks good...I can occassionaly see some shadows and blacks are not too deep.
I have noticed the experts commenting on various features such as deep blacks, motion etc ...should we expect the same or close level of performance on SD programming (without of course the HD clarity and sharpness). Sorry for the confused question but basically, I am trying to figure out if the quality of SD programming on my TV is within expected levels.

My understanding was that the HDMI cable would carry both video and audio and therefore no other cable is required for Video/Audio! Am I missing something ..is this specific to the device I have?

I had bought furniture 14 months ago that I thought was great until the recliner cable broke repeatedly and I had to get the stuffing refilled after about 4 months too. I got the store to give me full credit towards new furniture that cost more but fits much better in the room and should be much more durable. Here is a pic of it all set up.

Luckily I have a plasma so even that chaise lounge chair can see a great picture from the 150+ degree viewing angle it is at to the screen. This setup can sleep () 5 adults comfortably since everything but the wedge (and the chaise that IS permanently reclined) reclines. With 2 younger kids, 2 older kids, and my mother all 7 of us can now watch a movie together since the seats are about 1.5 the normal width without anyone sitting on the floor (except the 3 dogs :D).

I will add a pic of the screen next with the horrible mess of wires that is my next project to eliminate, and a good chunk of the movies I own in the new rack I just bought that is already full and cannot hold everything.

Here are the others. Please excuse the poor PQ of these as they are done with my cell phone camera:

1. How far away will you be from the display when watching it? 8-10 feet
2. What TV will it be replacing 26inch tube

3. What will you be watching on it 1/2 bluray 1/2 games

4. Will a computer be connected to use the display as a monitor? no

5. Will you be getting a Blu-ray player to watch movies and will you be getting any HD service from cable/sat, or will you just be watching SD programming, and upscaling SD DVD player? blu ray (ps3)

6. Are you looking for the best in class display, the best bargain display, or best bang for the buck in the middle display? best i can get for the price

7. What is the room lighting situation? (i.e. can you control the lighting? Can you use light blocking blinds, etc to control it?) yes

8. What is your budget range? free to 400

9. Will people be watching at multiple viewing angles or just usually one person sitting directly in the center? 99% just me in the center

10. When will most viewing be done on the display (i.e. Daytime or after sunset)? even, going for lcd

:hithere:,

I've recently installed a Hauppauge 2250 TV Card in my PC with a 22" flat panel monitor and it is showing me what HDTV has to offer.

"I had no idea HD was that extreme!" I say! It's great and I want more of it.

So, I am now in the market for a 32" Flat Panel HDTV for regular viewing from my living room couch.

I got the TV card to record live HD air TV to my PC sense I can't really afford the $130.00/mo for AT&T's U-verse (I used U-verse for a few months and got attached to the top box options).

(I'm currently using Roadrunner cable for my Internet connection without cable TV; any suggestions on how to get both their Internet and cable TV for under $50 or $60 would also be appreciated; I don't need the top box - but I guess I can post that at another Thread.)

Anyhow, so I'm looking for suggestions on what is a good HD Flat Panel HDTV to purchase within the $300.00 range.

I need a 32" because of the Entertainment Center that I have will only fit that size. In fact it has to be no more than a maximum of 34 1/2" wide in order to fit in it. So, the 32" Flat Panel HDTVs with the speakers on the sides will probably not do. The rest look good but what do I know?

And I'm saying $300.00 because I've seen them go for that much on eBay.

:helpme Now with all that in mind I'd love to hear some good recommendations from the experts here on HighDef Forum on what would be a good purchase.

They will all be appreciated. The Panel thanks you.

John

Any thoughts?

Also I have 3 HDMI used in my TV (Cable box 1, PS3 1, Apple TV 1). So if I did get another xbox 360 w/ HDMI, should I put it in the game one?
Thanks!
All three are 40" LCD, 1080P, 60Hz, and are within $75 or each other.

If anyone has any suggestions as to which of these are better than the other(if any are) I would really appreciate your help. Also if you have any suggestions on other TV's in the same price range and size I would appreciate it as well.

Thanks in advance for you help :)

Hi all , am planning on buying my first HDTV for my room and after some researches I came to conclusion that it is a war between Panasonic Plasmas vs. Samsung LCDs ( or LED ) … so I’ve narrow it down to this 2 brands . I live in Lebanon (Middle East) and here the prices of HDTV are way high from any other place on planet earth… My main use of my TV will be football on SD channels , DVDs , and gaming on my PS3 ( sometimes I game a lot like 4-5 hrs in row ) , maybe the thing that am searching the most is the quality of SD channels. Well after all is said I’ve narrow it down to this TVs:

1- If I go Plasma: Panasonic G10, TH-P42G10, and here it comes with no THX and no Internet and it cost 1800$
Panasonic S1, TH-P42S1, with this model I can save up to 500$ or I can go bigger but it have no pc input I guess

Well I know all the pros that plasma has over lcd and they are plenty but am really paranoid about the burn in issue because here our SD channels have a lot of static images ( logo , news bar… ) , and the break-in period well be a pain in the butt lol , and Phosphor lag in gaming....

2- If I go LCD: Samsung series 6 , LN40B6xx , here it cost more or less than 2000$
Samsung series 5 , LN40B5xx , it cost about 1000$ so I can save some cash or go larger…
Samsung UN32B6000 ( LED ) , yeah it is 32 inch but it is LED , here it cost 1500$ ( I can’t go larger with LED because it cost 2 much )

So what do you think is the best TV for me , Thanks .

what 40 inch has a good ota tuner?

I have high quality ant, preamp ,splitters yada yada yada. I am far from both locations NYC and phillie.
I don't want a tuner box as an extra.
I have a crt hdtv sanyo 32inch it has a great tuner.
I have a mac with an elgato 250plus it tunes well.
My sharp dvd/lcd has a poor tuner.
My sansui dvd/lcd has a poor tuner.

I moved and swapped enough gear in the last 2 days to be sure about the bad and the good tuners. So i am returning the sansui and looking for a lcd with a good tuner. TIA
