I recently purchased a Sony Handycam CX500 and have had no problems burning AVCHD discs with my DVDirect burner. However, I am experiencing extraordinarily high transfer times when I attempt to transfer the internal camcorder data to an external hard drive through my Lenovo T61 laptop computer. For instance, when I tried to transfer 3.5GB of movies, the PMB software indicated a 49 HOUR estimated total time until completion. I am using the Handycam USB cord and a Seagate 1TB external hard drive. I also attempted to save the data directly into my computer hard drive, with the same results.

I have searched the internet extensively for any information but have found very limited postings. Any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Issue is that the lines on the field unless focused close to player are broken into small squares. I would say it’s poor quality film but when I zoom in everything clears up and the lines are straight and solid. Is there a setting that I need to change, I am shooting in low light mode (tried 24f & 30f)

Hi,

My wife and I just had our first child, so we had to buy the obligatory camcorder to capture all of those precious moments. I bought a Sony HDD.

I'm finding the video processing to be frustrating on my PC. It is a two year old HP with an AMD dual core athlon 64x2 4400 processor. I have plenty of hard drive space. Running Vista. 3GB ram. Enough or not even close?

All I really want to do is very basic editing, using movie maker. I would like to be able to utilize the files without converting them from the .mt2s to something else, but I'm struggling to find how to download the correct codec to allow vista to see the files. Currently I'm importing clips from the camcorder with the Sony import software, then converting them to a different format, then using Movie Maker to do my thing. I'd rather simplify the number of steps if possible. How can I get the correct codec. I've tried a codec pack, and while it will then recognize the thumbnails, it won't paly them right, they get all broken up.

Also, my processor maxes out quickly when trying to publish these hd movies, and I'm wondering if I have enough horsepower, if not what would be the minimum computer power to deal with HD files that won't break the bank. Again, I'm not looking for the cadillac, just want to make real simple family movies and share them with folks.

Any idea when and if blu ray recorders will become common in new pc's?

Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

Somewhat of a newb here. I was just charged with buying the company camcorder. (I work for a small advertising/P.R agency.) Budget is a hard $1200- can't go over that amount. I'll also need a tripod and external microphone.

We'll be using the camcorder for internal projects, clips we'll be uploading onto youtube and maybe a new business video here and there. We won't be shooting TV commercials with it, so no need for something professional.

We need a camcorder that:

Captures HD video
Can accommodate an external microphone (sound is important)
Is Macintosh-friendly (hook up via firewire to start working in iMovie)

My boss is wondering if there's a microphone out there that can be attached to the top of the camcorder (I think it's called a hot shoe?) as well as be "held towards" what we're filming. Does something like that even exist?

I'm assuming I need a microphone like a DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone.

We're schedule to start filming a small project early next week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

Don't know if it matters, but I'll be editing on a MacBook Pro. 3 GB memory, 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I'm a professional still photographer by trade. I shoot to eat.

I know nothing about video but what I have noticed is the that dynamic range on the video is not as great as in still cameras. True or False?

This week and last, I have been testing pocket hd recorders and looking at every video I could find on Vimeo. The winner for me was the Zi8 for IQ and DR and yes I tested the Aiptek Action HD, but not the GVS.

Anyway, I'm considering returning the Zi8 for something perhaps with better IQ and also more functions. This is not for profit, I will be using this camera to video fast moving objects. Dogs running and jumping is a good example and hand held if I can get away with it.

I think I need something with Optical Image stabilizer and a fast focus, 720p/1080i/1080p will be fine. I need an optical zoom with really good optics. Is there anything out there <500.00 new or even less used? If you have something, you think I might consider, please PM me.

I have been reading on this forum today and it seems the Hf line of camcorder are the most popular around here with the hf 10/11/100 being the ones most suggested.

How about the HDR-SR10/11 or maybe another model that I have missed?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi, I have two questions.

1. I have a samsung HMX-h104 camcorder and my problem is, after I have shot my scene and I've imported it in to my computer and when I play it, there is kind of a high frequency sound in the background. The way I tried to get rid of it is by lowering the audio quality from 44.1 kHz to like 25kHz and it removes most of it, but of course this also makes the sound in the video sound not as good.

I wonder, how can I remove the high frequency sound in the background without making the sound quality worse?

2.Second question is, what is the best HD format? Right now I'm using Quicktime movie and H.264 compression, but there is some quality loss, so I just wounder if there is any better options
