Can someone explain the Extended Networks for Dishnetwork?

On channel 240, where Dishnetwork gives some info about this, it is called "Distant Networks Eligibility".

The phone number there is to a 3rd-Party company that says you can have other cities if you pay THEM to get the approval. There is a FEE and up to 30 days for approval. If they get them - they bill you PER CHANNEL.

Also, what location Networks are available? My friend was told Chicago - but, there must be lots more. But, this must be tied to the current location of your receiver.

If you "add" another city - does it mean you lose your current Networks?

How many cities can you add?

Does Dishnetwork offer this feature directly - or do you have to use the 3rd Party?

Any additional information would be great.

I just had my HD DVR set up friday. The installer showed me the feature on the remote that allows you to change the picture from normal, stretch, zoom, gray bar, etc. But, now my original tv remote does not allow me to do that to the tv itself. What I had always done when I messed with it or somehow managed to change it, is I would go to ESPN 2 and change the picture to when I got to the one where I could see the scrolling news at the bottom of the screen. With whatever the installer set, I can not make out what is scrolling across the bottom on the stations that have that feature.

How can I get to use that feature on my original tv remote?

Well, I actually managed to figure out how to get the original remotes picture feature to work, but, it never changed the picture on the satellite, like I explained above. What I need to do is be able to shrink the picture top to bottom slightly. Is that possible thru the Dish remote?

thanks,
Can I just patch a cable from the dish to the existing coax running to the house?

There are a pair of cables that run from the alley to the house into a diplexer looking device that is identical to the Dish Network set-up. By theory, it looks like I can just disconnect the Cox/Comcast cable at the point of the diplexer and run a patch from the dish to this point. Does this sound correct?

I don't think is the tv settings because the HD channels are displayed ok. If I press the * button in the 612 remote I get a full picture (full screen) but it is stretched and it does not look natural.
I have the 612 connected using HDMI cable. Any ideas?

I was talking to my father the other day, and he was paying his cable bill at the time, $120.00!!! I think it is ridiculous, but, I wanted to ask the experts here, what a similar package would cost with the big 2 dish services.

They have the digital package, and HD ( just bought a 47" HD tv )
Standard channels, TBS, TNT, Nat Geo, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports, etc etc.. and also have ALMOST all of the movie channels, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and TMC ( No Starz ) Also, have 3 regular digital boxes, other than their 1 HD box. ( they will need only 1 HD receiver with Dish, and 3 regular receivers )

I was wondering if anyone with a similar package on a Dish plan could let me know what they could expect to pay if they switched. I went to the Direct tv and dish network sites, but to me, they are a PITA to navigate, and get info.

Thanks in advance !!

Hi!

I've been having this problem with my VIP 622 (installed 3 years ago). The Audio Level difference between channels can get very extreme. In particular, if an HD channel has Dolby Digital, the output is considerably lower than an SD channel without Dolby Digital. With my H-K receiver, listening volume for an HD channel is usually in the -20 to -30 db range, but if I switch to an SD channel, say NASA TV or BBCA, I have to drop the volume down to -40 to -50 db, lest I ( and my neighbors) get blasted out of the building..

It's very consistently this way between HD & SD channels. I know it's rare for all channels to have exactly the same audio levels, but this difference is extreme, and has only been happening for a few months.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

This week my VIP 622 started making extra loud noise (buzzing).

Then today I noticed some HD programs are jerky, but sound normal. Probably Sat 129. ESPN seems to be fine. Don't know for sure.

Recorded SyFy last night and recording is jerky, sound normal.

Today the VIP 622 has already re-set itself four times. I didn't do a thing.

Is this the end of the line for this receiver?

How can I get them to upgrade me to the top-of-the-line HD receiver for FREE if I have to get this one replaced?

I'm thinking maybe my fan went out. Awful quiet now. So I put an external fan on low pointing toward the vents on the side. We will see if this is a temporary fix.

What extras should I ask for ... for my inconvenience for having to do all the above?

A Dish subcontractor came out 2 days ago and changed some of the connections on the back of my 46" Sharp LCD to eliminate the slight popping sound I got every time I changed channels and the rare occasion when the entire screen would go yellow-green and blank.

The above problems were fixed by connecting the satellite receiver directly to one the TV's HDMI inputs but connecting my combo DVD/VCR player/recorder to both the receiver and non-HDMI input using composite (red/white/yellow) cables.

Now when I change channels the identifying title bar of the new channel comes up immediately, then disappears while the entire screen goes black, and the new channel appears about 15 seconds after I originally pushed the Recall button on the remote (it's the same if I punch in the desires channel's number). This is true whether or not the channels are HD or not.

The picture is just as good as the previous connection. Is the lag due to the composite cables then?
