Default New HDTV user

Hello,

I just upgraded my equipment and I ran into a small problem. I have a VIP722k receiver and today I added a Sharp Aquos HDTV as TV1 using an HDMI cable. I moved the old SDTV to the bedroom as TV2. The problem is that when TV1 is on the remote for TV2 will not work at all. If TV1 is off then the remote for TV2 works perfectly (I did program the codes for the tvs into each remote). I can't figure out what the problem may be and was hoping someone might be able to guide me in the right direction. Thanks.

Call Dish Support. They are pretty good with issues like this and should have you back in action in no time.. I had a simular issue and had to reprogram both remotes by going into the system info screen and ahitting he record buttons on each remote, then changing the IR freq channels or something..

Set the remotes to single mode having TV1 (IR Controlled on Channel 1) and TV2 (UHF) set to channel 2. This should hopefully solve your problem.

Default HD Errors

Hey All, Thanks for the help. I ended up calling Dish support and we figured out that there is UHF interference coming from the new HD TV and that is blocking the signal from getting through to TV2. They sent me an extension coax cable and an attenuator so I could reposition the antennae and eliminate the interference. Well, it didn't work. So, I disconnected the HDMI cable and used the good old RCA cables instead and this worked better. It's still not great so I'm going to have to reposition the Dish receiver away from the TV and see if that clears things up. I wonder though how other people deal with this, especially with tvs on different floors. Oh well, it'll keep me busy for a while.

Thanks again, I appreciate your help.

You could always try disconnecting the UHF antenna completely. It worked for me.

I did not understand your suggestion, or DISH diagnosis. My TV2 remote had fits of not working, So I used a 75ohm adapter to 300ohm twin lead and formed a half dipole antenna and taped it to the wall behind the HDTV.
Attached is a pic with the OTA coax removed for clarity.

Speaking of attenuator, i have yet to see a problem with too much RF remote signal.

Those are some very old school connectors on your satellite feeds...You might want to think about replacing them with a compression fitting like the one next to them (blue), it could prevent future problems.
