Default I just lost all my recorded shows

I have a Dish 625 dvr and I just turned my TV on and all my shows were deleted. I then noticed it says I have 150 hours of recording time. When I got it, it only had 100 hours. I'm just wondering what happened? All my scheduled timers were gone also. How the hell did I just get an extra 50 hours on my box?

Software update gave you the extra hours. No clue as why you lost everything, and they cannot be recovered.

That's pretty interesting. How exactly did I get extra space without upgrading a drive? I'm happy I got extra space but kind of mad some of my shows got deleted.

That's why any show I want to keep I unload to my HTPC via my Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device.

They may have changed the compression and that's why you lost your existing shows.

Dish/Echostar just lost an important case to TIVO today and they have to immediately remove any software/algorithms that infringe on TIVO's patents. That may indeed be the reason for the change and removal of recordings. Few were affected and it was mostly the SD DVR's that were in question.

I'm sick and tired of those damned lawsuits, how can Dish not go into bankruptcy with BS like that?
We, the customers, will get the short end of the stick by having to pay more to make up for the loss, soon, only DTV will be around if BS like that doesn't end.

Losing all your recorded stuff sucks, if that happened to me I would rise hell with DN to either get 6 months free or switch to DTV, updates are supposed to fix and improve stuff, no F**k S**t up.
Did you lose all your saved programs in the timer too

Hey rbinck, do you think that when the 922 comes out, it would eliminate the need for the PVR since it will have the built in Sling? Just curious. Also, from what I've read, those PVR's can't do "true" HD, but whatever format they use is still quite good. What format are your recordings saved in on your PC (file type)? Thanks!

"True" HD is a tricky term since nothing really does "true" HD. Anything that uses compression, in other words everything, will not be "true" HD in the strictest form of the word true.

Now if you mean does it record at HD resolutions, the answer is yes. Feed it 1920x1080i and that's what it records. Feed it 1280x720p and that's what it records. Up to about 13mbps and at 9mbps I can't tell the difference from the source on my 42" 1080P HDTV, so as far as I'm concerned it is true.

The file type is .m2ts with h.264 compression.

Default Dish NEtwork is horrible

Yesterday I lost ALL my timers and ALL my recorded programs. This is the 3rd time this has happened. Yesterday morning a message appeared on the TV indicating Dish was downloading an upgrade. Then BAM, no more anything. I am so angry!!! The Dish tech used every excuse in the book to lay the blame elsewhere. First he said he had never heard of this happening before. Then he asked if the unit was plugged into an outlet that was controlled by a wall switch. Then he suggested it was a bad power surge protector. Then said the unit was overheating. Then said I must have done something to the controller. Then said I must have done something to the receiver. Excuse, excuse, excuse. Dish is simply an awful company who needs to get out of the satellite business altogether and let those who know what they're doing handle it. They can't. He flat out refused to accept the fact everything was fine BEFORE their download took place. The deletions occurred AFTER their download finished. I couldn't even use the search part of the program. Every time I tried to search for a program, I got an error message in the search results window. No number attached to the word error, just the word error all by itself. I tried it no less than a dozen times. The tech said he had never heard of that happening before either. Really? Where do they get these guys? Oh yeah, now I remember, India, Pakistan, the Phillippines, anywhere but the good old USA.

I had troubles with DirectV, so when I bought a HDTV, I switched to DISH. I still have nagging problems with the 5.1 optical audio & DISH always says, "Reboot." That sure gets old. I would get just 'plain mad' if my John Wayne recordings disappeared.

This has happened to me three times - once with 622 and twice with 722. Hundreds of hours of programming and paid content. All I heard was that the DVR is a hard drive and they do fail. Only recommendation was the exta $$'s to authorize USB, purchase a large drive (buyt they will not play on any other device) and then back up to that or buy the Hauppauge PVR ($249)

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html

This way you can have archived copies that will play on other devices.

After you get the HD programs on your PC with this device can you burn to a Blu-Ray HD DVD? Or is it converted to SD quality? I guess I don't see the vale in this devise if you can't do this. Having the external USB on any VIP unit is much better I would think. A hard drive in a PC can go bad easier then on a Dish Network receiver because they are used more for running the software. Also it is much easier to just hit a button on the remote to find and start a HD movie then to get up and find the DVD. I know I am lazy LOL
