NBA (Lakers) playoff games not recording!

I have set up the last two Laker playoff games (vs. Houston-round 2) to record and neither one has started. When I noticed that they aren't being recorded I go and check the "Schedule" under "My Recordings" and the timer for that event has disappeared! Other timers seem to be functioning correctly, just these playoff games are mysteriously "disappearing." As a Lakers/sports fan this is very frustrating. I'm on the phone now with a 1st-level tech who has no clue and waiting for a supervisor or 2nd-level tech, so I thought I would post here in hopes of getting a fix or at least an explanation of what is happening. My hypothesis is due the "uncertainty" of the playoff schedule???? But these games ARE appearing as scheduled events when I first set up the timer. And I'm checking the Schedule to make sure that they aren't being "skipped" because of a conflict. They just simply DISAPPEAR from the schedule!

OP... Where do you live, and what channel did you try recording on??

I have a feeling that you tried to record it on TNT, but it was available to you locally somehow, either through your regional Fox network, or the local channel for the team (KCAL 9 in LA or ??? in Houston area)

Try a manual timer. That should by pass any schedule.

Mine did the same thing for the last game vs. Utah and the first game vs. Houston. It did record last night with the game two verses Houston.

From now on I am going to check to make sure it starts recording before I go to bed ..

That's what the "high-level" tech told me last night--after about 1.5 hours on the phone.

Well, at least I'm not crazy then. I'm going to start experimenting with the second (downstairs) receiver and see what happens there.

Of course having the check on them makes the whole DVR thing a hassle...!

I live in L.A. proper--just east of downtown on a hill. Both of the "disappearing" games were on TNT. I don't think the 2nd round against Houston is on any other local channel. The Utah series was available on both KCAL 9 and either TNT or ESPN or ABC. I *DID* try to set up "dual" recordings so I could watch either the national or the local broadcast, but the dumb receiver wouldn't allow me. It would automatically mark the first one I set up as a "skip" when I entered the second one. So it is labelling them as "identical" events, when they really aren't. You would think they could program a little more smarts into them??? I think the problem there is each game has a unique numerical identifier and that's it--it doesn't distinguish between different networks broadcasting the same game ???? But even in this case, whichever one wasn't marked "skip" DID record. These last two just disappeared somewhere when the time came for them to start.

Is DirecTV just as bad???? Is this just the kind of thing one lives with in the Brave New World of HD/satellite TV?
