Default Dish DVR External Drives

Wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the WD "My Passport" external drive to work with a VIP622. I just got one (500GB) but when I plug it in, I see the "No device connected" message. I activated the service through Dish, but the tech support guy says it has to ba a powered external drive which this is not. The drive lights up and seems to be doing something. There seems to be some confusion about what works and what doesn't so i thought I'd ask the forum gurus out there! Any help much appreciated!

Everything I have read says it must be an externally powered drive. I have a WD powered drive that works fine.

+1

My powered WD My Book Essentials 750 gig drives work great as well. One for a 722 and the other for a 211.
