The new 922 DVR

I had my VIP 922 delivered last Friday. The picture is about 4X better than the VIP 622. I had a problem with the search feature and reported to Dish Network. The Slingbox only works SD on my hardwired GigEthernet home network but the picture is still exceptional. You must order a external box to connect your roof antenna. I am very pleased with this unit.

My 922 was installed last Friday. Multiple issues around the dvr. They said that the external hard drive could provide a bridge for the content from my 622. When I used the icon to transfer the media from the external drive to the 922, it appeared to work, but it put 92 events into a single file. Then the pause live TV, skip back/forward quit working. Working with over 6 techs at DishNetwork they told me I had to delete all my content on the 922 and reinstall factory defaults. Lost everything..and it still does not work!

Now they are telling me I have the wrong version of software on my unit. No way to force the upgrade to occur.

If you have content to transfer, I would not upgrade to the 922 now.

If I watch a direct signal from my outdoor antenna, the picture is generally a little better than the compressed signal from the Dish satellite I see on my 722k.
I am not sure how the 922 could improve on that given it's the same signal being received.

jrad -- the symptoms you describe are similar to those I had on my 922 a couple of days after it was installed. Working with Dish Advanced Technical Support & engineering they were pretty sure the internal hard disk subsystem was experiencing a significant failure. They sent me a replacement unit (overnight), which I installed (with their telephone support). So far this new unit has been performing perfectly.

There is a known issue (to Dish) with external hard drives. You should not attempt to transfer more than 5 shows at a time, and they recommend not to transfer any until software release X102 comes out (soon!).

I am now on waiting on my 3rd VIP 922 Receiver from Dish. I upgraded from the VIP 622 last week. The first one I received the DVR function never worked, the hard drive would not record any programs. I did get the Slingbox functions working over the Internet. The second 922 DVR functions did work and I was very pleased with the Video playback. However on this unit the Broadband access would not work. I have been working with Tech support for several days trying to get the Broadband access to work. I am now waiting to get my 3rd Receiver tomorrow. I have been very pleased with all of the help I have been getting from Dish on this new Receiver. I do like the new features and storage over my 622 Receiver. I am very pleased with this Receiver and I would not switch it out with any other model's out there. Just my two cents!

Well, of course..it is now the top line model. But the bugs and the 'forced installation' fee will keep me away a while.
