Default Any reason not to join Dish?

Current Directtv subscriber unhappy with their HD options. Dish is practically paying me to join. Any major complaints before I sign a 1 year contract?

Dish Network has been slower to get local HD channels through the satellite. But thats about it. Dish also offers 10 channels from Voom for $5 more a month.

Directv will have space for thousands of HD channels by the end of the year. That still won't mean diddly squat if they don't get channels like TNT HD on board. Dish Network has TNT HD, which means a lot, especially in these the times of NBA playoffs.

On the other hand D* has the NFL Sunday Ticket, so if you are a football fan that could be a big element in a decision.

TNT HD would be nice to have over on DTV, but I can not stand the NBA. Anyway I get all of my HD nets from L.A. and N.Y.

Now I am even more torn because i checked with my cable company today because i have cable internet (charter cable) and their offer is even better.
Free install, all channels including premium on main tv with high def box, and on the other 3 tvs, expanded basic (basically everything but premium channels, HBO, etc.) local channels in hd without need for OTA antenna and a upgrade on my internet speed to 3 meg plus no contract,
Guess I will have to give cable a shot. Only downside, no DVR in my area yet but suppose to be coming soon as they have it in some areas.

Well, I cannot got to another provider if they don't have a DVR or even better a HD DVR with 200hrs to record for two Tv's and caller ID . Looks, Top 60 with HBO/Showtime for three months at $19/mo plus HD Dish Pk for $9.99/mo with six months free plus 10 HD VOOM chs for $5.00/mo. Free installation.

My feelings are that value for content, nothing beats Dishnetwork at this point. Unless you want NFL Sunday Ticket on Directv. The Voom channels have us hooked! Nothing else compares except Discovery HD Theatre, but that is only one channel. Voom replays things, but I have enjoyed watching over and over! Just saw a new program this afternoon on our favorite channel, Equator HD. It is almost like being there! For the money, nothing else compares! So far the promised continuation of new programming on the Voom channels looks good!

Concast cable is about $20/month more than Dishnetwork in our area, and with much less programming, let alone HD. Once you experience HD, it is hard to settle for less!

I would agree, RX8, that broadband cable is a drawing point, but I would be spending over $100/month for what I can get for about $70/ month with DSL and Voom. For $30/month I could get Concast cable modem and still get Dishnetwork w/ Voom HD and more digital programming. In my little town there is still space for the most HD programming and highest speed internet.

I think E* has the edge, this time around. Especially for new customers. There are some deals to be made.
Things are still unsettled on the HD front with regards to HD locals, etc. and will probably be that way, I suspect, most of this year.
But at least they are working for more HD content where it's possible.
Maybe the PVRs will even get down to more reasonable prices, likely with 1 year sign-ups, as well as MPEG-4 and other improvements as time goes on.
