I finally have VOOM added to my Dish package.I LOVE IT !So fat the Monsters channel and the Live Wire news channel are my favorites.Majestic looks pretty good too.
I was very nice to the installer..he looked exhausted I gave him a big cup of ice water, Certain Voom channels look a little out of focus- RAVE,Guy TV. |

That's great that your Voom channels are clear and sharp looking.
I live in the west coast-in the suburbs of Los Angeles,California.I think you're in a better part of the USA ..more in the direction of the 61.5. Advance tech at Dish told me today that he's heard from several customers that some of the Voom channels on Dish are a bit out of focus..in other words its not true HD. I'm still thrilled to get Voom...I'm so happy with it ! There's also a 24 hour Dish HDP3 channel which shows an aquarium of tropical fish in HD-that's not part of Voom..it's just an added perk of Dish.I LOVE IT ! |

Is the Fish channel part of Voom or was it with Dish before Voom?

When I had the satelite put in for 61.5 recently that's the first time I ever got the dish HD Demo channel.
I've had my HD package for over 3 years now with the two 500 satelite dishes that were for the 148 and the 119/110. But when I got the 61.5-third dish installed yesterday THAT is when I got the Dish HD Demo channel that has that Fish aquarium on it. I love that channel..very relaxing and subliminal. |

Can someone provide a brief review of the 10 HD channels? Which ones are good? Is the picture quality good? Currently I have comcast HD but I really want more HD content. When will Dish have OTA HD?

If you do some searches, you will find more info about the 15 HD channels that are availabe (plus, Showtime, HBO, etc.) and read various opinions. Personally, I think they are a fair scattering of entertainment, movies, sports, adventure, travel,. news, the arts, and animation. PQ varies somewhat on these channels, especially with regards to older TV programs that were not formatted for widescreen viewing. ( like reruns). With that exception, I would say overall the quality ranges from good to very good, approaching excellent in some cases. Some compression is evident, so I would be hesitant to say they get as good as the best OTA broadcast signal. But there are not many of those either. Best viewing channels I've seen are HDNet and DiscHD for the most consistently great PQ.

I love the Rave HD channel, always great PQ, its a little better with my dish 942 rec. that it was on the voom box. I think this channel, and Equator HD have the best overall PQ as far as the Voom channels, go and I agree HDNET and TDCHD are amazing on Dish. HBO and Shotime is usally good, but sometimes they are a little pixelated.
