Crap!!!!! I read reviews on the Walmart website about DVD recorders that can record from cable boxes... and they say it's pretty much useless because most of the stuff is copyrighted and won't allow to record on DVD's, damn, that sucks!
I may as well record stuff with VHS tapes, no restrictions with those.

I was wondering how you were going to get around the copy protection. I have had a DVD recorder for quite a while and the only way I can even begin to record is through the component output. Good luck!
By the way, nice ride
I have a 2005 GTO, 400 hp with a 6 speed. Yellowjacket. Yahoo!

I use a dvd recorder hooked to the TV2 output of my 622. I have recorded everything from the DVR. I know this ouput is not even in stereo, but I have my favorite NASCAR, concerts, and John Wayne movies even though they are SD. PPV records OK also.

Sounds good, you use A/V, right? (not the cable)

With component, AV or RF outputs there is no DRM.

My TV2 is in the bedroom and I use the coax with the recorder tuned to ch 60. The playback is great on any SD TV. Some day I might move the recorder to the 622 box and use S video out the back. Or I could use the component. BUt I really like my DVR.

DRM is what?

I'll get a DVD recorder and try different outputs from the box to the DVD recorder and see which ones work and which one(s) don't work, I'll keep you posted or I may start a new thread talking about which outputs from the 722 HDDVR give me full access to recording copytighted stuff.

DRM is Digital Rights Management - where the Hollywood types limit how many or if you can copy a program you record or can even prevent it being recorded off the HDMI port from a tuner. This is currently being applied to HBO and Pay Per View offerings, not by Dish, but by the content providers.

As I said DRM does not apply to analog outputs, but even in that case they can force a tuner to only output 480p for a HD program on the component ports if the wish.
