Well my last post was about getting the Maxtor onetouch4 750 but that didnt work as i got black screens and basically lost everything i moved to that hard drive.
Now i got a: Vantec Nexstar hard drive dock (link is a web review)and Western Digital Caviar SE16 500gb the nexstar cost me $40 and the hard drive cost me $90.00. I thought maybe smaller hard drive might give me better performance and be more reliable. I maybe wrong but that's why i went with a smaller drive. What i thought was good about this setup is all i have to do is pop in hard drives, as well i can get another hard drive for my computer back ups and with a sata 2 connection. the nexstar also has an on off button and can handle 2.5 hard drives up to 1TB the verdict so far it works, i have noticed that fast forwarding at 300X was smother than the seagate onetouch so i am feeling more confident that this is a better solution. SD looks good and so does HD. The specs on the hard drive are 16mb cache 7200 rpm. I have a 622 receiver. I will update if this fails but i am at least feeling more confident, and in the long run this is extremely more versatile solution. I am thinking any usb solution is only as good as the receiver doesn't break as you cant move these hard drives to other receivers and watch the shows. But i am sure some one will crack this problem once they encounter it. I was wondering does anyone know what hard drive dish use in their receivers? (I did try a search) |

update
i am done trying to do the usb thing. while watching the usb hard drive it says it is not longer connected when the 622 starts to record a scheduled show. Currently the hard drive is not even found. I give up. I will use the hard drive for computer back ups. |

Looks almost identical to my Thermaltake BlacX SATA HDD USB Docking Station, about the same price.
Great for swapping SATA drives on 622/722. Saves bucks on expensive hard drive enclosures ($30-40 more per drive). I use Seagate 250GB drives so I don't lose so much if drive craters - no problems, so far.
