A quote from MultiChannel News columnist Scott Greczkowski: "The channels removed from the Dish Network lineup are HDNews, UltraHD, Treasures HD, WorldSport HD, The new VOOM HD Movies channel, Filmfest HD, Gameplay HD, Animania HD and Family Room HD....

Plus this .. "There has to be more to this story, Dish had more then enough bandwidth to carry all the new channels plus all 15 VOOM channels, after all their aired all day together without an issue. On the HD announcement channel on Dish Network it mentions that new HD channels will be coming to Dish in weeks. I am wondering if the VOOM channels were removed because of the problem with the AMC14 satellite and this is Dish Networks way of reclaiming bandwidth to launch more nationally know HD channels? If this is the case then why were the VOOM channels removed last night."

Will most likely be a hot topic at Team Summit. I wonder if this is part of a power play on DISH's part to force Voom to drop their lawsuit. Interesting to say the least.

I was surprised they dropped some VOOM. I liked the HD News. I see now I have 9472 & 9486 showing a 30 second looped video telling me all about the new HD channels. It is broadcast in SD.

I will not miss the Voom channels, but the channels they added do not interest me much. My wife likes Bravo and my son likes Disney, so the good thing that will come out of this is that these were the only channels keeping me from getting the all HD package.

My big question is, do these new channels have any HD programming? Bravo, Disney, Travel, TWC, WFN and Toon Disney did not have anything on in HD when I had them on last night. CN was in stretch-o-vision. Smithsonian had a show about tigers that was SD 16:9. I have never heard of any of the movies on MGM channel. I did not check ESPNnews, ABCFam or CNBC because I REALLY don't care about these.

It's great that they added new HD channels, but where is the HD programming?

I'm not complaining, I just don't see what is so exciting about these channels.

Well I think we're all aware that slapping 'HD' on the end of a channels name doesn't always mean there will be a lot of HD content.

I think it's an exciting move by Dish because they're not just laying down and are actually trying to compete with Direct.

Over time these channels, like all others, will fill up with HD content. Except of course material more than 4 or 5 years old.

DISH told me weeks ago to ger on their email list so I would know about the new HD channels first hand........I have yet to receive a notice. That's pretty stupid on their part. Thank God for this forum.

F1 is not broadcast in HD, this year anyway.

CNBC and TWC are nice in HD because the have so much info. on the screen at once. A couple of Cinemax were added. Bravo shows movies. Although most Disney daily programming is SD, their movies should look good.
Considering what we gave up, I think its a good trade. I would still like the dispute with Fox get settled so we can get Speed, Fox News, and Fox Movie Channels.

Am I missing something? I watched the weather on TWC HD last night in 4:3 SD and "Major League" was on Bravo HD in 4:3 SD. I'm not saying that "Major League" should look like HD quality, but they could at least find the Widescreen version.

I will say that the SD quality on the HD channels was way better than the normal channels.

Once again, I am not complaining about the new HD channels. I just don't see what all the excitement is about if there isn't much HD content. I did not turn on all of the new HD channels last night, but I turned on most of them at some point and the best I got was some stretch-o-vision and some SD widescreen.

TWC gets alot of info on the screen during our "Nationals on the 8's". That will look alot better after their official HD launch on June 2nd.

On that day they move into their new studios with all HD cameras.

I don't see all of this as a good trade as many of the new channels are not real 16x9 HD. They do however look better.

I will talk more about the Voom removals in that thread.

looks like hdnews is one of the vooms that is gone. i would watch it sometimes for a quick news fix but since it repeated about every 10 minutes i guess it was pretty lame. wonder if that main anchor guy was wearing a wig?

A quote from April 2007 I found while searching for release info.

I'm seeing that Lifetime Movie HD was launched prior?? Was it removed? I dont see it in the HD lineups.. anywhere. My wife needs that channel almost as much as I dont.. and thats a lot. Seeing as a few of those channels did just go live, I'm wondering where LMN is.

Also curious as to if and when MTV will go HD.. I read somewhere that it was slated for this roll-out, or sooner than later, however much weight that carries with rumored releases.

Thanks!
Brian
