Default Which Sats do I need a clear view of?

in order to get both SD and HD? I'm not really concerned about local channels, I have an OTA that gets everything in perfectly. I want to do an azimuth check on my property to know if I have a clear view of all those needed.

Depends mostly on the installer's knowledge of your location, as well as any close by obstacles that could be a problem.
110,119,129 (or 61.5) depending on location.
110,119, and 129 can be mounted on one Dish. 61.5 requires a separate dish.

For SD you need 110 and 119. HD is on 129 and if that's not an option 61.5.

So, I need both 110 and 119 for SD, not one or the other?

Yes, the minimum installation uses both 110 and 119. You also need 129 (or 61.5) for HD.

A Dish 500 will get you 110 and 119.

For HD you will use a 1000.2 for 110, 119 and 129. If 129 is not viewable, 61.5 is the next option with a wing dish and a Dish 500.

I thought we already answered your first question.
You will need one or two dishes for SD and HD programming based on your installer's decision which will best serve you at your location.

1 dish= (110/119/129)

2 dishes= (110/119) (61.5)

You only pay for programming choices, services ordered, and the receiver (typically a monthly lease payment)

The dish or dishes are included. You do not pay for them. Installation is either free, or a nominal charge depending
on any promo running at the time.

What city are you in? The answer to that will determine the one or two dish question.

If you end up needing a "wing dish", I don't think there is an extra charge. I originally needed to pay a bit more because I needed a tripod on the roof to get over the trees but again I ask, what city are you in? What DMA is more specific to the question?

Yes,

I'm in CT in Wallingford. They put a tripod on your roof to clear the trees?

I originally ordered from D*tv and the guy wouldn't even go on my roof to check for line of site. The guy was a total ahole about doing anything. He didn't even come with anything more than a 15 foot ladder.

Daleb,

I'm asking here again to make sure. Dish seems to be great at the hard sale and I'm not 100% trusting of anyone who is giving me a hard sale when I call to ask a question. I ask a question and they breeze over it and go right into their sales pitch which is something I don't like, or trust.

Well, I hope you got the answers you need. The rest of us have Dish, and yes, some have had problems, but the most part we are pleased with the service.
It's far from perfect, but the same goes for all service providers.
Go through the programming options on the website before you call.
So you know what you want. (Prices are listed too).
Read and decide.
For me it was a always simply ordering what I wanted. No one can guarantee your experience will be better or worse than theirs.
I was never sold something I did not want or need.
It was getting the right answer if there was a problem, that would sometimes require more than one phone call. But that was rare.

Same goes for installers. I've always had good installers when calling Dish. Others have used local installers and ordered through them.
Results have varied both ways. Some great some lousy.

Yes,

I was wondering, do you know how high that tripod is on your roof to clear the trees?

I had the same issue with dtv. They told me they dont use tripods or extenders to mount the dish higher. Dish does this. If so it might help with my line of site issues

I guess it depends on the installer. My 61.5 Dish 300 looking at 61.5 is boosted about 10 feet up. Everyone has their own individual situation though so this may or may not work for others. I also had to pay an extra $75 for this. It is not considered "standard basic installation".

I had to get good at hitting it with snowballs though if we get a heavy sticky snowfall to knock the snow off. Remember that if the dish is out of reach.
