Default how can dish claim 49 national hd channels

tv predictions.com has an article that dish network announcedtoday that they now have 49 national hd channels. the funny part is that 8 of those are pay per view channels. what a joke. if thats how they count, then directv has alot more national hd channels. directv only counts actual national channels, not pay per view or sport event channels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go Dish, stretch the truth. Some complain about stretched picture but we are getting stretched truth. Does this mean we won't get more channels in the future. I am reading the forums and hearing about all the new channels on Directv. I am jealous. It seems E* is being strategic in expanding its HD offering. Are they limited with their satellites, while Direct's bird has lots of room? Even if they gave up five of those pay per view channels they could make a credible effort to keep up until they launch another satellite. When they do stuff like this I start thinking that I can't wait until the contract is up. At least I do have some good HD channels to watch, and the promotion I received gives me a good discount.

The person who wrote the article did not do his homework. There are so many incorrect statements in the article. He did not get the info from anyone from Dish Network.

That is the game that all of these companies play. Even though RSN's are local, they still count as national HD coverage because they are available to anyone in the nation through certain packages.

Given that though. By the end of October, Direct will have more standard HD channels. As I said before, even though I am a Directv costumer, I don't care who has more or less, the difference is negligible at this point and will continue to be for a while anyway. They will both be going back and forth for a while to come. Everyone chooses providers and packages that suit their needs. I am glad that their are several options available for most of us. I want both companies to keep striving to be the best. Doing so keeps both in a competitive edge which is only good for both Direct and Dish costumers. The only reason why I chose Direct over Dish is because of sports.

Eventually both will have the same (minus some of the sports) national channels. Not sure what's happening with MLB yet but Dish seams tight with the checkbook. Other that sports what will be the definer will be the locals, who has your area. If nothing else DTV just put the ball back in Dish's court, time to hit it back over to the otherside guy's. In the end we all win.

Default I got 35

I count 35 HD national cable channels plus the Big 10 Alts + Center Ice + PPV's + Premiums + HD locals. I didn't count those NBAHD and HDEV1 channels that never seem to be on.

The only thing I see unique are the Voom channels. How can they claim 90 unique? This list must have been created a while back? With the exception of a couple, those Voom channels seem pretty lame anyway.

RSN's can be counted as national because everyone has the option to watch each HD RSN 24/7 with certain packages.

I wish the Turner channels would not do that stupid stretch-o-vision. If someone wants to stretch a program, they can do so on their own TV. When the network stretches the program, we have no way of putting it back in its proper format. What is even more annoying is the fact that they even stretch letter box programming.

I happen to watch a lot of the VOOM channels. They are 24/7 HD channels. VOOM has a wide variety of HD movies, sports, and specials that aren't seen anywhere else. They are now adding more and more new programming all the time. There are repeats, yes, but, you find the same programming repeated on most of the non-VOOM and the new HD channels. I would suggest to those who are most critical of VOOM, that they watch the channels first before they make judgements that are not factual.

Couldn't agree more on the VOOM channels. Also, the list was posted before TBS HD.
