Default VIP622 and cable..

I have dish with a 622 but now have to get very basic cable in order to get HSI from them. Is there a way I can plug a cable into my 622 from comcast where when the dish is out or I want to watch a cable channel, I can do that??

Sorry, 622 is totally incompatible with cable, no analog tuner, no QAM digital from cable.

You can connect cable to the RF connector on TV and feed 622 with HDMI or component, switching between the two.

I never tried hooking cable up to my 622 ? Not sure but if it is true hook cable up to an antenna input, directly to TV.

Then use another input for your 622, either component cable or HDMI.

Default Do you have a QAM Tuner

If your HDTV has a QAM tuner, then you can get all your locals in HD as a back up. You would not be able to DVR them, but you could watch them at least.

Default Dish 622 & Comcase Basic for Local Channels

I recently dropped ComCast HD service for Dish. I retain ComCast for HSI and they still deliver local channels over the cable. My TV will display my locals in both analog and HD format using just ComCast.

I had understood that the 622 receiver would allow local HD channels coming in from an off-air-anntanae to be integrated into the 622 channel guide for full DVR interaction. This thread confirms what I am seeing -- the DVR doesn't recognise a local channel signal on the ComCast line.

Why is that? What is the difference between an Antannae and basic cable? The DVR setup has a selection to choose between Cable and Off-Air (System Setup / HDTV Setup). What is that function for?

That is for the modulated output to run 622 output signal to other tv's, it allows you to set 622's signal with what ever type of signal running through out the rest of your home

The digital HD signal you see on cable is modulated as a QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation) or something like that and over the air HD signal is modulated 8VSB or 8-level vestigial sideband modulation.

They are not compatible so since the 622 has the 8VSB OTA tuner, it cannot see the QAM signals on your cable.
