How many experience losing total picture when a storm passes by your neighborhood? I live in New Jersey and Dish is poor when there's a heavy rain or a strong gust of wind. I see the blue screen of death on my tv and the "acquring signal." Also, a couple of weeks ago, we had a bad storm and I totally lost many channels. I could only watch locals. I called Dish and was upset. I told the cr that I was thinking about going to Comcast. Her response to me was "that's your call" Wow, great customer service and standing behind your employer. Should I call Dish and have them send a tech. for this? I need some guidance.
Thanks Syberman |

You got a bad CSR if they said that.
What programming do you have(hd or not)? What type of dish do you have? |

You should understand that the Dish satellites are in the southwest sky. A storm coming from the north may not even affect your picture. I live in Texas where we have some real frog stranglers of thunderstorms. My experience is that's what it takes to knock out your service. Most mild storms have little or no affect. Clouds won't do it. It has to really strong storm cells. I have had Dish service for ten years and although it is frustrating when it happens, I really don't think it is a deal killer.

Even in the worst storms your signal should only drop 30-40%. Which is still enough signal concidering you have signal strenght above 85%. Unless it is a snow storm. Do You have a heated dish to burn off build up of snow? Also sucure the dish better as so not to move around. Better off doing these things instead off getting ripped off by cable company

It is normal for storm clouds full of water passing between the dish and satellite to lose signal it is inevitible. Usually it doen't last a long time. If the wind is blowing hard it could move the dish around also causing signal lose. It really needs to be tight and secure.

Thanks for the feedback. I have two dishes on top of my garage roof. Why two? Because I subscribe to international channels as well as domestic. It says "Dish 500" on both also, a VIP 211 reciever. I had HD programming but I am in college now and I am trying to save some money as well as not stare at the tv for hours when I should be studying
Anyway, I threw that comment at the cr because I wanted to see what they could do for me. For example, she could have said, "I'm sorry for the inconvinence, but I will send a tech to your house to see what the problem is." That in my book is acceptable. Where do I tighten the dish? I have no clue how to do this. If someone can guide me, I'm sure I can. Thanks Syberman |

Go into your menu and post some signal strengths from different transponders on 100 and 119.
Also, go into your installation menu and select System Info. See if it gives you any errors under details after it gets finished scanning. |

Our dish does that no matter what. I'm on my fourth - yes 4th - 622 receiver and can't wait for my contract to be up. About a third of the recordings my machine makes, are completely black.

Sorry to hear that SanDiego Paul. I really like Dish and the HD channels but I wished the picture never went out with a strong gust of wind or a heavy rainfall.

Wow. That really sucks to hear all of that. That was my concern when I went with Dish, that the rain could cause me to miss stuff... here in NE Wisconsin, I've had almost no problems in about 9 months with Dish... I can remember twice the signal going out, once in a bad storm, and once in really cloudy weather... but we went a whole winter without any interruptions.
Now if they'd just get up and carry the Green Bay HD locals...!

4 622's gone bad indicates a problem elsewhere. Maybe dirty power or static in power feed, poor ground, etc.

I had a repeated problem with losing the signal. I finally had a local Dish Installer come out. He realigned the dish and found out that one of the connectors had some moisture in it. It has cut the signal loss down noticebly, of course we had a major rain the other nite and loss the signal for about 5-10 minutes, Thank god for Over the air antennas. We just switched over to that for a while and went back to dish when it came back. Moral of the story, stay with a local installer and stay away from the customer service reps.

After the first two 622's went out, I had an electrician run a dedicated line to that outlet. There is absolutely nothing on the line other than the Denon reciever and the dish 622/TV combo.

I'd recommend an UPS for any device with a hard drive, ie; 622 receiver.

If your power company is supplying staticy power a dedicated line might make it worse (no capacitance from other appliances). I'd try a UPS also.
