Default 622 Trick Mode Problem is Driving Me Nuts

When I pause a real time or PVR recording and press the yellow skip forward button to activate frame by frame advance, the recording skips forward about one half second and then begins the frame advance. I do not have this problem with the 942 and was hoping the l4.05 update would address this issue.

Would all readers of this post who have 622's please check to see if you have the same problem? I contacted Dish Net customer service who said they have had reported problems with the remote trick modes but would not say that this was a problem common to all 622's. I checked with my installer who thought it was a software or coding problem and suggested I wait until the 4.05 update occurred to see if that fixed it. It didn't.

Everyone please let me know if your 622 has the problem or not. Then I will be able to decide if it is isolated with my unit only. Thanks!!

I've had that problem with the 622 since the day I got it. Dish appearently doesn't seem to think it's a huge concern.

Do you think the problem is associated with software (coding), using Mpeg 4 (higher compression rates) or is it hardware related (possible different hard drive?).

Someone in a forum noted that the 942 had this same problem but a later update solved the problem. Can anyone verify this? They also went on to speculate that the 622 software may have been spawned from the 942 original codes and, therefore, inherited the same bug.

Would other 622 owners please take the time to add a reply to this thread indicating if your unit does or does not have this problem? I know that if sufficient numbers of us report this problem to Dish Network, we might just get a resolution to the issue.

I really rely a lot on the information various members of this forum contribute. We dish owners are subject to so many variables in the quality of the installs and equipment inconsistencies. A place like this is the only way we can get other persons' opinions on these matters.

I have a 622 and a 942 and the "Skip Forward" button does jump a few frames on the 622 (and then is out of focus for a couple). The 942 does not do this.

After expiramenting with my 622 it seems that if I am on live TV and hit pause and try to skip foward it jumps backwards or does other crazy stuff. But if I hit pause and wait a few seconds and give the DVR a chance to "record" then it works fine. Also recorded programs on the DVR work fine.

My 622 is doing this as well but it hasn't always acted this way, its just been in the last few weeks. Just the 10sec skip forward is fine but if I try to use the fast forward it's really odd in that it gets jumpy and it may say it is going xx300 but it's not going forward fast at all. I feel it's a software issue since mine hasn't always done this.

It started after the last software update the big one that put the HD on the channels and side by side pic in pic.

Yep, that is exactly what my 622 does. Thanks for the reply!

I'll have to try the wait a bit approach but what makes this problem so hard to fix?

Then it definitely appears to be software related.

I suggest we all give Dish Network a call to their tech assist and ask they make solving this problem a priority. They are supposed to log every complaint so they can assess what most are having problems with.

Again, thanks to all respondants! I know the Dish Network folks can solve this if we just keep after them a bit and keep the issue in their face.

Default Some progress noted

I have noticed that some changes have occurred to the pause frame by frame advance.

By experimenting a bit, I have discovered the following work around.

To achieve frame by frame advance without loss of frames, do the following:

1. Press the Pause button.

2. Press the Skip Back button once. The pause time bar should disappear and the pause symbol appear in the upper right corner.

3. Press the Skip Forward button once. This will bring you back to the original pause point or possibly one or two frames prior to that spot. Now you can continue to press the Skip Forward button for frame by frame advance without blurs or frame loss.

How long this will work for my receiver, I have no idea. It still is not the way things should work, but for the time being it is a step in the right direction, even if one has to take one step backwards to go forward.
